I'm freaking out because my period's two days late.

I know, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, but the thing is my periods have been regular-as-clockwork since I was 12. 28 days, generally in the afternoon, last exactly four days.

I'm not even particularly stressed, I'm actually a lot less stressed than normal, although I have had a few upheavals in my life recently.

Uch. How long before I should take a test?

I don't see how I could be pregnant though- I'm certain I always used contraception in my most recent relationship.

Quite worried about how much I've been drinking during freshers, too- it's not massively more than I usually drink, but it's still causing me concern. If I am pregnant, is that going to have caused any problems? : /

I've also got the fun of telling my ex-boyfriend to look forward to, I guess. Who I'm still, unfortunately, very much in love with. Oh joy.

Why tell him if you haven't done a test?

Two days is nothing for a period to be late by, and it happens quite often that people can be a few days late and not pregnant. You can test now though if you want to.

Obviously not going to tell him until I've done a test!

And, I know, it's just that my period's never been late. Ever. I'll get a test as soon as I can, though, just to put my mind at ease.

Well- period's now come- but obviously late, and it's also a lot lighter than usual (colour and amount). And a hell of a lot more painful.

Guess it's just an abnormal period? Weird though. O_o

Just done a first response test, and Im pregnant. Around 4 weeks I would guess...
Feel stupid and unlucky as used condom, but it split, and took the morning after pill but it clearly didnt work
I cant tell my parents as they are v religious and would kill me for having sex and then wouldnt let me have an abortion...

    So yes.

    Need to have an abortion...

I need to go to my Gp? Do you still need a referral from 2 gps?
How many appointments are needed for it all to be over and done with, as I have no transport, live in the middle of nowhere and the boyfriend is super busy at work until end of month so I would have to get a taxi and I cant afford that.
Also, will I have to stay overnight in the hospital?

Go and see your GP immediately and take it from there. I do think you need two referrals, although when a good friend of mine needed an abortion, she only required one! So you'll have to determine that with your doctor.
If you are in the earliest stages of pregnancy, you wont have to stay in overnight. I do believe you'll just be given a series of oral capsules. Good luck.

If you're sure that this is what you want 100% then to have an abortion on the NHS, you'll need to be referred to a clinic by your GP or from a family planning clinic. This website tells you everything you need to know and explains about the process http://www.brook.org.uk/content/M2_5_abortion.asp Good luck, hope you're ok :hugs:

are you definitly definitly sure an abortion is what you want? it sounds like your only doing it because of how your parents will react.

if its definitly what you want, then its fine, but its such a big decision, just be totally sure your ok with it

Don't let your parents be a factor. If you're going to go through with it, do it for yourself. Not being ready, and at the wrong point in your life is all valid reason enough.

At the end of the day, your parents may be religious and strict but they love you and would probably forgive you anything. (Yes, even something as big as this!) They might not jump for joy at the beginning, but at the end of the day they are your parents and would probably support you.

However, if you are 100% sure an abortion is for you then I agree not telling them is probably the best thing if you feel they would want you to keep the baby. After all, it is totally your decision to make. It's your body, and your life.

As for what to do next, you can go to your GP or if you would prefer your local family planning/sexual health clinic. You'll be referred up to hospital for a scan to see how old the baby is, and you'll also be offered counseling, in case you want to talk your decision through with someone. Once your pregnancy has been dated, you can arrange an abortion. The whole process can take up to 4 weeks, though they obviously try and keep waiting time to a minimum.

The earlier you can get this sorted the better. Do you have a sexual health clinic in your area? You can go to your GP also and I'm quite sure you don't need 2 GP's referrals as the questions would be asked at the hospital.

You will need 2 visits to the hospital normally. One for bloods, scan and to book you in and the next for the procedure.

In early pregnancies you have 2 options. One is where you are awake, you take a oral pill and then have a pessary inserted after an hour or so. You will be awake and if you need the toilet you use a commode so the nurses can check that everything has come away. I had this procedure done when I had a missed miscarriage and it was horrible. I needed to go back in the next day as some of the placenta hadn't come away properly.

The second is where you will be asleep. A pessary is used a few hours before and then you are put to sleep. A suction tube is used to remove the foetus and placenta. There are some risks but they will talk you though this at the hospital.

You won't be in overnight with either as long as everything goes well. You will probably need to be at the hospital by 9am.

If you need any advice then PM me

this looks like a bad situation, if ur parents are religious and you are at uni then have the abortion, the advantages absolutely outweigh the disadvantages in ur case.
