Things to do Before Starting

Could someone confirm to me exactly what I need to do before moving in at Uni. As far as I know, I must confirm my place, accept my offer of accommodation, enrol, make sure my finances are in order and select the modules that I wish to study (which I have no idea how to do ). Is there anything I have overlooked? If so, could someone please tell me what it is exactly? (I'm assuming I don't need to sign up with a doctor in the Canterbury region or set up my Kent internet account or anything like that yet.) Thanks.

As far as i'm aware thats all you have to do beforehand, that's all i've done. I think you have to register with the doctor, but not sure if that's compulsory or not. I've registered with the doctor but I can't find my NHS number, so I have to ring up my doctor tomorrow.
I have absolutely no idea about the modules thing too. I keep putting it off, I really need to sit down and look at it properly

Me too - I've got the booklet with them all in but have no idea how I'm meant to inform the university of which ones I want to study. Maybe we can do it in Freshers' Week.

Go to http://www.kent.ac.uk/gettingstarted/modules.html
Then click "choose now" and log in with the account details they gave you when you enrolled. (I think they will have sent an e-mail with this in as well)
Then click "registration" in the left panel. Quite simple from there. I still haven't decided which modules I want to do, though. >_<

Thanks Missy67. :woo: That site looks really useful. There's no way I'd have just come across that on my own. Anything else I need to know of?
Registering with the doctor here is a good idea, you're here most of the year. Also, the medical centre here on campus is absolutely fantastic.

And I do that now or during Freshers' Week?

Also, just to confirm, once I've done the following: confirmed my place, accepted my accommodation, sorted out my finances, enrolled, set up my IT account, sorted out my modules, passed the medical, I don't need to worry about university till moving-in day?

Oh, and, is there a list anywhere of items I need to buy for my room?

And there's definitely nothing else I need to make sure is done?

Thanks again people.

(I've just remembered another query: how and when will I receive my timetable for Freshers' Week (and how is this actually drawn up? Is the frivolity etc not optional?)?)

You register with the doctor online before you arrive, other than that make sure you're enrolled and accom is sorted, anything else can be sorted once you're here!

Not specifically for Kent, but might be a helpful list of things you may want to take:
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki/What_To_Take_To_University

There is a timetable in the handbook that comes with the getting started pack, if you have that. Otherwise, the link below is for humanities specifically..not sure if this applies to you, or if you can find one similar for your faculty..

Thanks Kim. Looks like we'll all have a busy schedule (oh and I am studying humanities by the way). I've favourited that link - I'm going to have to remember it inside out. Though surely I'd still have found out about these events if I didn't check the website? I'm just worried I'm going to miss out on more information now...

I should think that they tell us everything that's going on when we get there. I have this information on my student portal too, https://records.kent.ac.uk/account/ click 'Details & Study' and then 'My Timetable'.

http://www.kent.ac.uk/student/arriving/freshersweek.html is also good to know.

I'm in the same boat as Hazzy then - I've just enrolled and accepted my accommodation etc, and not done anything to do with my timetable yet.

How exactly do I get onto this student portal then Kim?

I'm really fretting that I'm going to turn up to Freshers' Week without a clue of where to go and what to do. I'm just a worrier though, lol, I'm assuming I'll get some correspondence from the University nearer the time.

So, any other little pages hidden in the labryinth of the Kent Uni website that Hazzy and I could do with viewing?

Thanks. :woo:

There's also a link to the Student Portal on the 'quick links' menu bar thing at the top right of the page. Dunno if you already knew that or not, but just thought I'd mention it!
