What do people wear at University?
I'm an American coming to the UK for postgrad next month and it sort of just hit me that what we wore at my college for undergrad may not be so appropriate in the UK. As in, pajamas, sweatpants, sweatshirts, torn jeans, etc. were the norm.
Actually, at my school it was not unusual to see someone going to class in a bathrobe or slippers.
What sort of things do UK students wear? I'd hate to be the girl who everyone looks at and immediately can tell I'm American. I've heard people don't wear sweatshirts over there at all, is that true? That's what an Irish policeman told me, at least... -

Re: What do people wear at University?
Damn, I was gonna go for the whole, "clothes?" thing, but people beat me to it

It always shocks me when I hear of Americans that have been to school or wherever in their pyjamas (or pj's if you so wish). I mean, how rude?
I at least put some underwear on before I leave the house
Seriously, I think you can stereotype all you want, but people wear a variety of things, like most places. Some people wear sweatshirts, some don't. People will probs spot you're an American from a mile away even if you dressed up like an indie-person and didn't speak

Re: What do people wear at University?Yes, we do, sweaters and jumpers are completely different things, a sweater is like a hoody/fleecy top that's very casual and a jumper is more like a cardigan, except that it isn't open at the front.(Original post by QI Elf)
Well we don't call sweaters, sweaters. We call them jumpers and yes, we certainly do wear them. It gets very cold here in winter. Ohh and bring somehing waterproof. An umbrella or raincoat should be fine.

Just worried that my penis will be visible.
