Default Student discount

Well, I got my student card at my induction day on friday and am just wondering is this all I need in order to get a student discount in the stores that offer it or do I need something else as well?

That is generally all you need, although on showing them your student card, some stores have their own student card that they will issue with, but you don't need to worry about that in advance.

Thanks - I was reading on the internet somewhere about an NUS extra card or something and was just wondering what that was and whether I really needed it. I think it's just used for extra discounts.

It depends how strict the store is. Store's such as New Look, Topshop, Topman, Dorothy Perkins, Burton etc etc will accept a normal student card (or just your 16-18 bus pass in some cases, which is useful when your student card runs out).

Other stores, such as Evans, Matalan, Superdrug (in my experience) are much more strict and thus only accept NUS cards.

Still, theres no harm in just asking, 'can i get a student discount with this?'. If yes, then suhweeeet, if not then dont worry, its only 10% (:

Most shops will give the dicount with a normal student card. Only some will ask for a NUS/NUS extra card (like Claire's)
