Hi I am going to do Maths and Further Maths next year for A level and Im confused about when we are going to do the modules. Because it says in the prospectus for Maths A-level we are doing: C1,C2,C3,C4,S1,M1. And for Further maths A-level: FP1,FP2,FP3,FP4,D1,D2. And for AS Maths were doing: C1,M1,C2 and for AS Further Maths were doing: FP1,D1,FP4. But hang on isn't FP1 way harder than C1 and C2 and builds on from C1 and C2. Then how will I understand FP1 if I haven't even been taught the previous core modules of C1 C2 etc. And why do we skip FP3 at AS and do it in our A2s?
Oh dear what a confusing paragraph I have just typed. Hope you understand it
You will be doing AQA as thats the only exam board that does FP4.
By doing AQA maths you will be studying maths alongside further maths thus FP1 will taught alongside C1 and C2.
Yes FP1 is harder than C1 C2 but not that much harder as its still only AS.
FP1 work is a minor extension of C1 C2 but the content is mainly independant of C1 C2.
AQA FP modules are all independant after FP1 so you could study FP1 and FP4 in you wanted too!

Ahh I see now thank you you've made me understand it. But at my friends school he does C1,C2,C3,C4,M1,S1 all in is first year and does just further maths in the second year. So at the end of his AS year he will have a full A-level if I'm right??
Do you know whether AQA is a good board for maths compared to the other boards becuase I have always thought of AQA as a more Arts orineted board rather than a Science like edexcel for example?

No university have ever said that they want you to do subject x on exam board y. It makes so little difference as they all have to meet QCA standards. I did OCR Maths at college, then went to school and had to do Edexcel - the differences were only apparent in a slight shuffling round - some C1 stuff was in C2, some C2 stuff was in C3, etc. They basically cover the same things.

there was a thread about this the other day - ive done past papers from most maths boards and think AQA is the easiest.
content is similar but the way the questions are structured i think is far easier than other boards

Yes your right, your mate would have A2 maths while you would have AS maths and AS fmaths in your first year.

Im not to sure! I have heard that AQA had the easiest and most flexable maths Alevel.

Would I have a full maths A-level at the end of my AS year because technically I have still done six different modules: C1,C2,M1,FP1,D1 and FP4. So could I have a maths grade from those modules?

No, because you need all four C modules for an A-level in Maths.
I did AQA as and OCR MEI a2. I must say AQA was a lot simpler, as the question were basic tests. MEI really maes you work hard/think, but I think that's best .
Ahh, I see. So there are only really two modules of choice in A- level mathematics.
Correct. In addition, you can only use a "2" module for Maths if you have the corresponding "1" module (so, say, C1-C4 + M1 + M2 is fine, but C1-C4 + M1 + S2 isn't).

I guess so but then logically that would make sense because you would have to learn and know the previous "1" to actually understand the "2" module as the concepts would build on from each other.

Yep, and that's probably why the rule exists, so that people doing Maths + Further Maths can't jumble round modules in an "unnatural" way.
