It does save petrol if the car was built before ECU's were fitted as standard.

That new drivers who don't crash in their first year do so because they're good, and not because other drivers are good. This is especially applicable to moped/scooter drivers.

anyone who is brand new to driving and doesnt crash in their first few years is normally a very good and safe driver

Perhaps, but everyone makes mistakes, especially when they first passed. IT ca't be helped. I've been driving for nearly 3 years now and never had a crash, but looking back Ican think of a good number of instances where my actions easily could have caused a crash were it not for the vigilance of other drivers.

small cars = always cheaper to buy+run+insure
New cars are reliable, S/H cars breakdown.
High mileage = unreliable
