Re: Should you use spaced paragraphs in your personal statement? It still saves it. I just logged into that account again (I'm not applying, I'm already at uni, I just have an account for testing exactly this sort of thing) and found this saved as my personal statement:(Original post by Jack22031994)
No after you save it I mean

Re: Should you use spaced paragraphs in your personal statement?Agreed, but if you have something amazing to say, I don't think it's very important. I speak from experience -(Original post by Potally_Tissed)
Definitely.
It makes it far easier to read. It's worth the sacrifice of the 300 or so characters you lose by leaving four blank lines.

Re: Personal Statement Help Question ThreadGenerally if you have something amazing to say, you can either condense it to make it shorter, but still get your point across, or condense/delete other sections to make it fit with having the line breaks

Re: Personal Statement Help Question ThreadIn my opinion, it's down to attitude of the reader before they've read your statement. No-one's going to be particularly happy having to read 4000 characters of block text, so you're immediately on the back foot when it comes to impressing the admission tutor. Having spaced out, organised paragraph rules out the negative impressions.(Original post by MyselfEtAl)
Agreed, but if you have something amazing to say, I don't think it's very important. I speak from experience -

Hi I was just wondering of its worth mentioning work experience you'll be doing after the UCAS application's been sent off? I have another placement lined up for the end of October, which is obviously a tad late for sending the personal statement off. Would it be worth adding something in at the end of the work experience section mentioning this, or not?

Hehe. Nah. I was here in post number three, and this question is answered in the OP - but nobody ever reads the OP in advice threads, do they?

Re: Personal Statement Help Question ThreadYou can, if you have space, but only briefly (e.g. 'I am undertaking work experience in X at the end of October')(Original post by wefoundlove)

And only within the strictures of the PS golden rule - only include material that is both positive and relevant. Bear in mind that you can't have gained any benefit from an activity you have not yet undertaken, so you should think carefully before including it.(Original post by *Interrobang*)

In addition to this, I would advise against including it simply because if it is cancelled for some reason and you get an interview (I'm assuming that you're either applying to Oxbridge or for medicine or related courses based on the October deadline), then you're going to be in quite an awkward position when you have to admit that you haven't done the work experience. If anything, save it for any interview and mention it there. Then you've got something new to bring to the interview and can fully describe what you've learned from it and use the fact that you've done work experience to your advantage.(Original post by Good bloke)

Even if you're not applying for those courses, I would advise against it simply because you haven't completed it yet so effectively it's a type of name dropping (i.e. you're mentioning the fact that you will be doing work experience because it looks good, but you haven't drawn anything from it so it's a little hollow mentioning it).
At the end of the day, it's up to you, but I would consider not including in case something goes wrong.Last edited by toronto353; 06-07-2012 at 12:16. -
Yes the system will be fine as it will recognise your name and I'd number so you can use the whole thing again if you want(Original post by Alina2793)
I'm about to take a gap year and withdraw from my application. What I wanna know is, can I re-use some parts of my old personal statement for the new one next year?

Re: Personal Statement Help Question ThreadThe above is true, however, universities will be interested to know what you will be doing on your gap year and will expect you to have progressed/learnt more about your subject during the year since you last wrote your PS. For example, you probably wrote your PS for 2012 in September 2011 when you'd just started your A2 subjects. By the time you reapply you will have finished your A2s so will have a lot more to discuss (and will have gained a lot more experience, if relevant) than when you applied last year so the universities will be looking for evidence of this from your PS.(Original post by Alina2793)

Re: Personal Statement Help Question ThreadNo, there shouldn't be any reason why not. Can you be a bit more specific about what the problem is?(Original post by i_hate_ucas)
