Re: The Big Medicine UKCAT 2013 Entry UKCAT Discussion, Advice and Results Threadthank youu! there is a new VR question type, which is in about 2 of the 11 sections. you have to infer something from the text, usually it asks you what the writer's opinion is, and it gives you 4 (i think) answers to choose from. they take more time than the usual true/false questions and are a tad harder but there's a few examples in the mocks on the ukcat website to practice(Original post by shumen9523)
Congrats for your amazing score !!!

My question is: was there anything different about the VR questions this year ???? Were the questions more difficult / longer ..etc ???
but i haven't taken the ukcat before so i'm not sure what the usual length is - i'd imagine about the normal length... you didn't have to scroll down on many anyway!

Re: The Big Medicine UKCAT 2013 Entry UKCAT Discussion, Advice and Results ThreadSame here, I really can't wait to get it over and done with. It would be like a heavy weight would have been lifted off my shoulders!(Original post by DuperSry)
I feel depressed just reading the scores. -
Re: The Big Medicine UKCAT 2013 Entry UKCAT Discussion, Advice and Results ThreadRelax man, I think we'll do just fine and even if you don't get the score you wanted this year you can always redo it ....... You should be happy for them. Who knows you might even get similar results in YOUR exam as well.(Original post by DuperSry)

Re: The Big Medicine UKCAT 2013 Entry UKCAT Discussion, Advice and Results Threadthank god u did not say the kalpan book because loads of people here seem to use it and I don't have one.(Original post by RashelW)
thanks a lot! i'm thinking sheffield, leicester, nottingham definitely but not too sure on the other one... you?
i used the 600Q book which was the best help, the mocks on the ukcat website and other advice online i found on google. oooo and the free kaplan mock!
I didn't do much for QR really, i thought i was terrible at it using the books and mocks given but the real thing is 100x easier so don't worry yourself too much! as long as you know mode, median, mean, percentage difference and all that stuff in gcse maths you'll be okay
btw u make it sound so simple I am freaking out it has been 3 days since I started practising and I am doomed! thanks a lot for showing some hope

Re: The Big Medicine UKCAT 2013 Entry UKCAT Discussion, Advice and Results ThreadAR section made me feel so low. it has so much of the shapes and figuring out the relation and matching the choices seems impossible in 22 second!! I finished all of the sections on AR of 600 UKCAT book but I could not do even one without looking at the answers behind. what can i do to improve my performance on AR?(Original post by RashelW)
see my last post!
the quantitative is much easier in the real thing - not many complex tables of data etc and only one step to get to the answer.
AR is quite a lot easier too. verbal is about the same difficulty, as is DA (if not a little more difficult)
i got about 500 average in the 600Q book mock, so you can see it's not that representative! good luck anyway

Re: The Big Medicine UKCAT 2013 Entry UKCAT Discussion, Advice and Results ThreadYeah I used the how to master the UKCAT, it's a really good book especially with the Abstract reasoning section in my opinion. I still prefer and strongly recommend the 600Q get into medical school by iscmedical book though.

Re: The Big Medicine UKCAT 2013 Entry UKCAT Discussion, Advice and Results Thread
?Guys, does situational judgement actually come up? In my exam duration which I have my exam in 4 days, it says its 1 1/2 hours, and if the SJ was added it'd be 2 hours, so I'm confused whether or not I'm doing it!
Thanks x

Re: The Big Medicine UKCAT 2013 Entry UKCAT Discussion, Advice and Results Threaddid u use kalpan book too or just the 600 UKCAT questions?(Original post by Aeger)
750 average, I am so happy! A high score just makes it easier when deciding on places to apply to. I'm looking good for Newcastle I hope (my 2nd choice behind Cambridge, as I have no idea how my Cambridge application will go I'm kind of getting attached to Newcastle).
As many have already said I found VR harder than the practice tests - some of the questions weren't as obvious as in the 600 Q book and some of my passages were very long, thus making it harder.
I guessed a lot of AR. DA and QR were fine, QR noticeably easier (as expected) than the 600Q book.
Now for a rest, read through some prospectuses, PS writing, results day and preparation for BMAT later on.

trust me, i couldn't do any of them either! go through them again, and write down a list of the patterns given to try to remember them as in reality there's a limited amount of patterns they can give you! the ukcat is a lot easier anyway
in the real thing, if i didn't know the pattern straight away i just guessed, flagged and moved on
thank god u did not say the kalpan book because loads of people here seem to use it and I don't have one.

don't freak out really! and to everyone else, i wasn't trying to make you scared or whatever so i'm sorry - i just want to point out that you'll probably get a much better score than you expect. good luck everyone! -
Re: The Big Medicine UKCAT 2013 Entry UKCAT Discussion, Advice and Results Threadthat means u have about a minute and 15-20 seconds per set. what id say is waste about 45 seconds on finding the pattern, and then 5 second on each shape because matching would be easy after u know the relation in the sets. and try to guess and flag the whole set if you havent found a relation in a minute because u dont want to be losing time on sets that could be easier towards the end(Original post by AS01)

Re: The Big Medicine UKCAT 2013 Entry UKCAT Discussion, Advice and Results ThreadYeah it was really good, I would've saved up money and paid for it if had the chance. Try and go into a free onlien seminar, they pretty much go through the free online mock test, and then start pitching their kaplan course to you :P I probably wouldn't recommend private tutoring of 10 hours cos its like over £1000, and tbh you can do what they'd tutor you yourself. But to get it taught, do the 2 day course - they do online and in classes in different parts of the country(Original post by AishaTara)
how did the online seminar with kaplan work? etc I'm considering booking a course..

Re: The Big Medicine UKCAT 2013 Entry UKCAT Discussion, Advice and Results Thread
ok so i just got a 630 in the Kaplan online free practice test.. VR 600 QR 630 AR 650 DA 670, people who did both that and already did their UKCAT, is that a representative of the actual results i would get? or is the exam easier/more difficult?
-
Did you find this book more difficult than the 600Q one?(Original post by carla6600)

Re: The Big Medicine UKCAT 2013 Entry UKCAT Discussion, Advice and Results Threadi got about 690 average in that and got 760 in the real thing, so you'll probably get a lot higher. from what i remember, the real thing is easier in most of the sections, especially QR and AR. maybe more difficult in VR but that might just be me. good luck in the real thing!(Original post by aeyurttaser13)

Re: The Big Medicine UKCAT 2013 Entry UKCAT Discussion, Advice and Results Threadya if ic an't find the pattern then i am gonna just guess it. if i just keep neither in all of the option might be two or more of them would be right.(Original post by aeyurttaser13)
