Comparing graphics cards (Mobile Vs Desktop)
I want to get a laptop in the near future and am currently a little confused with what gpu to go for. I know the desktop market well but don't know anything about the mobile ones except for the fact that integrated is **** and a seperate ATI/Nvidia gpu is the way to go. I don't know how far mobile gpu cards have come along and so i am a bit :shifty: with them.

Are Mobility Radeon HD 2000 series on par with the lower end of the Radeon R520 series?

Are the GeForce 8M cards roughly the same as the lower end desktop GeForce 7 Series?

I was just basing those comparisons on the mobile cards being equivalent to their predecessor desktop cards. If those questions were 100% n00b then i don't apologise as i don't know any better with this specific topic :p: .

The best site I've come across for comparison of notebook GPU's would have to be here. It lists all graphics cards which are available for notebooks in the market today. It also lists valuations of different benchmarks (3DMark, gaming benchmarks) which would be very handy indeed for comparison to desktop GPU's. There's also a really good benchmark list for quick comparisons here.

If you're interested in direct comparison of specifications, TechArp have some really good guides for both desktop and mobile GPU's.

    Hope that helps

I'm not sure about AMD/ATI because i'm an NVIDIA fanboy, but basically its similar to this:

    Geforce Go 7050 = 6200 LE
    Geforce Go 7600 = 6600 LE
    Geforce 8400M = 7200 GS
    Geforce 8600M = 7600 GS
    Geforce 8700M = 7800 GT
    Geforce 8800M = 8600 GS
    Geforce 9400M = 8600 GTS
    Geforce 9700M GTS = 8800 GTS
    Geforce 9800M GTX = 8800 GTX

That's how they roughly compare in benchmarks, theres a few in-between and what not
