Default Ideas for Biomedicine Gap Year

all this time i was preparing myself for medicine...cut long story short: didn't work out , i'm taking a gap year and will be applying for biomedical sciences (standard )

now the problem i have is that all my extracuurricular + work experience is related to medicine...includes:
shadowing doctors + surgeons + pharmacists
voluntary work at care home
first aid course
medicine summer school
chemistry camp
charity work
debate club

some of it i can work around to fit biomedicine...
does anyone have any good ideas as to what stuff would be advantageous in the gap year

i was thinking work exp at pharmaceutical company?

i'd really appreciate ideas...plus i have rep to give out

thanks in advance

Hey, I'm in exactly the same boat as you, and I'm finding it really hard to write my ps, it's just when I wrote the medicine one it was far more focused, and now it's a bit more vague...

but about the pharmacy w.e. thing, you could talk about how it showed you how important medical research is and the huge difference that these medicines make to peoples lives, all because of research. And even when you're not applying for medicine, unis like to hear about extra curicular stuff like charity work and debate club.
And I'm sure work experience with something in pharmaceuticals would be good, like Astra Zeneca or GlaxoSmithKline or something.

Good luck this year!

I'm applying for biomed, I'm just not 100% sure about medicine anymore, which could be partially due to 4 rejections, but also I'm not sure it's for me, and biomed keeps my options open and it's all the subject matter that I want to do.

I figure that if it turns out to be medicine I want to do it will have taken me longer to get there but at least I'll know it's right.

Where are you planning on applying?

Your work experience sounds fine for biomed, it is about what you learned from them, you can put a spin on almost anything to make it relevant. I don't know if a pharmaceutical company would take you on at this stage but it is worth having a look on their websites... I just found this, but I didn't read through all of it http://www.gsk.com/careers/uk-stud-school-gap.htm

Also, why so keen on Imperial? I'm not biased toward King's at all...

Their reputation is very good... I chose King's cause of the course flexibility (I applied after a gap year with AAAA so could have gone to either). Just saying, don't get too hung up on their rep, especially if you are looking at graduate med, for example, QMUL reserves places for its biomed students on its graduate medicine course.

They ask you to do the BMAT for Imperial right?!

What did you get for A2 Level? What you doing in your gap year? Where are you applying? [/questioning!]

Good luck!
