Chemistry question about mercury chloride help!!!PLEASE

This may be obvious to many but i have a sheet of paper ( just started chemitry so im a bit rusty ) which says name the following: HgCl2 and HgCl , what would be the difference in names

One would be Mercury(II) Chloride and the second Mercury(I) Chloride I would assume. :smile:

I agree, although if you want the old name then it would brobably be mercuric chloride for Mercury(II) Chloride and mercurous chloride for MgCl.

Your teacher would probably just want Mercury(II) Chloride and Mercury(I) Chloride though.
