The "What Book Is This?" Thread
Yes well I noticed that there isn't one and I want to find out what book this quote is from, I read it AGES ago, like 5 years ago so it's not a best seller thing....

Basically it's about a girl called Poppy and this other boy and girl, I think the girl is her cousin? The boy might be her brother except I can't remember and they enter this DREAM land...and there's a quote in it that I've never forgotten:

What happens to the dream when the dreamer wakes up?

I also think that Poppy's uncle gave her a white poppy necklace which is what she was named after, not the red flower that people commonly thought...

    Thanks in advance!

Re: The what book is this thread
Good idea. I can't help with yours I'm afraid but I'll throw this out there: does anyone know a book about a man and some kind of demon on a road trip? The cover of the copy I read (when I was in junior school, so: ages ago) was sort of reminiscent of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - view of car driving towards the viewer down desert road. The demon thing was green with a big nose - looked like a goblin with wings. The man was...some man. I barely remember anything other than it was a man and a demon and there was quite a lot of swearing (probably why it engrossed the young me...)
    plz halp

I googled it (it sounded so familiar but I couldn't place it) and it came up as "Waking Dream" by Rhiannon Lassiter, which I have definitely read but can't remember anything about. Might have to find it and reread it now.

    What book is this?!
Argh, this is driving me insane!

I read a book about 5 years ago now. It was really good, absolutly gripping. I remember sitting in Tescos car park reading it because I didn't want to put it down. Now I want to re-read it (it was leant to me by a friend so I can't just pick it up off the shelf) and I can't remember the name or author of it... :o:

    What I can remember...
    • The main character was called something like Corey or Seth or something... An American kind of name.
    • The main plot was that his Dad was a drug dealer. The bit I can remember most vividly is the beginning - he's only 13/14 and walks in on his Dad cutting drugs on the table, something happens and his Dad gets shot by some guys, then something else happens. Somehow, along the way, the MC gets arrested or put in care.
    • The main bulk of the story is about him inside prison, he gets into a lot of fights and puts a couple of guys into the hospital wing, getting seriously injured himself at some point. He also studies a lot (something like Law?) and has to do the dishes :p:
    • I can't remember how it ends but he gets out of prison and it's a relatively happy ending, but an open one as well.

That's pretty much all I can remember, any help?

    Unsure of book name
    Hi,

I'm looking for a book that I read during an english lesson when I was in year 11. I was wondering if anyone could shine any light on what it was called?

As far as I can remember the book was based on young boys that were homeless. There was an ex military soldier that invited them over to his house and while they were there he killed them. After their death he shaved their hair and dressed them in military uniform then buried them in a perfect line underneath the floorboards in his house. I think one of his quotes was 'I was cleaning up the streets'.

    Thanks in advance,

I know the book you mean... weren't the people called the Camden Horizontals?

Edit: a quick google reveals it to be called Stone Cold by Robert Swindells.

Challenge for you all, about a 'book'.
    Hi all,

Got a bit of a challenge. I had one of those fleeting memories last night, of something I had when I was younger. It's obscure, but if anyone could tell me what it is I'm remembering, it'd be great - it'll bother me if I don't find out!

It was a book, but with a board game in. Each double-page of the book was a different 'board' with a different style of gaming, and you had to complete one page to progress to the next. I remember it being space themed, and I think it followed two space-explorers throughout - there was a level about wormholes...

As I said, very obscure, but does ANYONE know what this book was called?

    Thought it was wheres waldo?
Are you American? It's Where's Waldo in America, but Where's Wally in England.

Either way, it's not that. Something I'm also remembering is that some of the aliens in the book might've been called the Zoggs; but of course, all Googling that brings up is swimming equipment.

If the first person to reply hadn't said they remembered it, I'd be beginning to feel crazy 'round about now. :p:

Re: The "What Book Is This?" Thread
Ok. I read a good book on holiday but forgot what it is called and the author name.

Plot: A woman finds an amulet (forgotten where) and travels between two worlds, one is the world as we know it and one is a world where the people who can travel are the ruling classes and there are many clans (I'll call this world the new world). When she travels between the New World and Our world she appears in the same place as she traveled from in each world, so she can't travel from 48 floors up for example.

    Some random plot rememberances:
    1) She loves someone in her ruling clan who she is forbidden to get involvoed with but does
    2) It is the first book in a series
    3) The ruling classes make money by drug running, taking drugs through the new world and then appearing in the real world where they wanted to
    4) it is a medival like culture with only the ruling classes having guns and technology.
    5) The woman wants to modernise the society and improve technology
    6) only as much can be carried between worlds as a person can carry, therefore no cars etc.

Please helppp I really liked this book.

I'm going to go dig around in my garage to see if we still have ours. Didn't it have a spinning wheel in the bottom corner to tell you how many moves to take?

I think I remember this or at least something familiar, unfortunately I can't remember what it's called. Did you have a choice of equipment? I remember a space themed book which was like a game and you could progress but you had to choose which equipment to take, for example, you had a choice of 4 out of 8 items.

Was it this sort of thing?

I had a few Usbourne books when I was younger, that sound a lot like what you described. They had different covers to the one I've linked to, but they had a similar sort of format.

I don't think I had a space one (think I may have seen it, though), but I'm pretty sure I had a pirate one and an Inca one.

It wasn't one of those, no; and it didn't have a spinner or the chance to choose equipment.
As far as I know, it was an oldish book; I remember my brother and I just played with a dice and counters; it had a level with wormholes, one with craters that you rolled the correct number to move to, one had something to do with air locks; and the story progressed from page to page.

As I said earlier, I'm sure the aliens in it were called the Zoggs or something; and the main characters were a boy and a girl; some areas of the story were traditionally comic-like.

I hate not remembering things in full...lol
