What, no p0rn, no breaking copyright, no p2p software? That's basically "Don't break the law".

Since when was p0rn against the law? :woo:

It's totally legal, and we're paying for the net connection with our hall fee's anyway.

And finally why is p0rn a censored word? It won't even let me phrase it as the full word... Good lord. It's not as if we're discussing intimates here. Merely the legalities of it.

That's the funny thing about British laws on modesty. We can show full frontal nudety and people having sex at half eight in the evening, as long as it is "education"

But the second it becomes "entertainment" it is banished to the far flung reaches of regulation. Does this mean we can show someone being shot in the head, and their brains being splattered all over the wall, as "education" on what would happen if you were to fire a gun in your face?

Honestly the British regulation systems do make me laugh. It's no wonder we have the highest teen pregnancy in Europe.

Is p0rn really banned and not allowed ? It can only help student reduce stress before exams !

AFAIK

Torrents don't work. You fail to find any seeds.

P2P Software does work, but I wouldn't risk it.

4OD does work, and many people used it while I was in halls with no issue, they bar on 4OD is like the ban on mobile phones on hospitals, there is no evidence, but they ban it just in case it hoovers up all the bandwidth.

p0rn isn't banned, stop worrying.

Even if it is banned, lots of people watch it and get away with it.

How does Hornet feel about sites like ****** or ********? Its basically Youtube, with some slightly different content

And are there any free wireless points around the campus or best of all, in lecture halls, where you don't have to sign in to gain access?

And does anybody know about films that are in the public domain? Do they allow us to download those?

I can't believe that Thestudentroom is actually bleeping out some of the names of websites that have been mentioned here. Britain really seems like a police state in some places......(no offense or anything, I am just being honest)

Does anybody know about wifi coverage in the lecture halls, mostly in the MBSE building? And if there is wireless, do you have to sign in or is it open to anyone?

Without a license you can watch stuff thats not live, so the iPlayer, 4OD and ITV catch up are all OK there. However, you can't use P2P so you can't install (or at least can't use once installed) the iPlayer/4OD/(does ITV have software?) software, you have to use their web based streams which work fine.

Copyright violation (ie surfthechannel, and peekvids? I don't know that one...) isn't allowed, and neither is porn. I don't know if these websites are actually blocked but the traffic is apparently monitored so I'd avoid them.

I beg to differ. torrents do work, seen a guy or 2 use them without knowing its not allowed, however they stopped.

Dose anyone know if they banned any users already?

Was it really worth resurrecting a six year old thread just to say that?
