Hi
I just sent my application off to Homerton College Cambridge to study Anglo Saxon Norse and Celtic
On the SAQ you have to tick if youve applied before. (I have and was rejected last year)
Also, I have 2 points under the IB requirements (36, not 38 points) but the fact that I got Distinction in AEA history when I was 16, some mitigating circumstances for my IB and doing 2 A levels during my gap year, it shouldnt really be a problem?!!
PLease, any thoughts on this? I'm applying beacuse I cant do this course anywhere else!
yes, you have a chance. one kinda doubts ASNaC at homerton is the most competitive course in cambridge, really..
perhaps not in terms of numbers, but it is more likely than not that the quality of the other applicants for such a specialised course be very high, i.e. higher than the average applicant for a different subject
Did you get any feedback last year? I mean if there is a particular reason for your rejection last year, you might be able to be better prepared this year.
hey thanks for your replies. In all honesty I chose Homertoin beacuse of its reputation as somewhere a little easier to enter (please dont neg rep me!!!! it just does have that reputation, no?)
Anglo saxon is an odd course because at Homerton last year there was a 100% rejection rate, some colleges have a 100% acceptance rate, and others 50%. There are so few people applying but some colleges havent accepted people for years.
Yeh, my feedback was that I was over nervous in the interview whcih stopped me from getting my point accross. I was pooled though, but to no avail!
Anyway, if anyone else has been in a similar sitaution to me, please post and Id be interested to know.
Thanks for the advice. (also am not geeky asnac, im just very interested. is that enough?!!)

What that shows you is that Homerton, regardless of its ill-founded reputation, in fact is quite prepared to reject ALL candidates for a subject if they don't meet the university's standards. ASNAC isn't odd, if you look at the stats, all colleges are prepared to reject all their direct application candidates and take entirely from the pool or do without (and take stronger candidates in other subjects instead) in any year.
it really annoys me how people think certain colleges are easier to get into. having personally spoken to the homerton admissions tutor i really dont think it is any easier to get into.

hey I know youre heading to Homerton, but I wanted to be entirely honest about half of my motive!
It is a little more accessble, at least with the IB. It doesn't mean that it is easier, I should definitely rephrase that, but they are more understanding. It is one of the few Cambridge colleges that has said that they would consider my 'poor points' (which still equates to way more A's than they actually ask for), and have actually said to me that it is unfair that Cambridge (as a whole) ask for such high IB points considering their A Level comparison.
I also like Homerton a lot and am attracted by its location and more laid back and informal atmopshere, so Im not only doing it for it's 'more accepting' entrance policies.
I was just wondering! But youre absolute;y right to question me!
ASNAC is a bit of an odd course, in that only 1 person applies to a college. It's SOOO weird!

hey
yeah sorry that wasnt meant to be an attack on you. i wish you lots of luck with your application!
the reasons you outlined above are fine, its just irritating when people say they want to apply there (or to any other less known college) because it's 'easier to get into'.
i think it's great that the college is more understanding and welcoming, they try to be an inclusive place, so hopefully they will look at more than your IB scores. I did IB so i sympathise with you, the results often go wrong...
