c'mon there are far more important things to think about than competativeness - that's all covered by pooling and by the competativeness changing year on year anyway.

why not merton huh? . nah tbh i don't know much about brasenose but all oxford colleges are nice i'm sure its great.

Brasenose looked amazing when I went round it, and became my second choice just off looks alone. The bedrooms seemed better than most, but not being allowed on the grass, and the fact that it didn't have very large grounds at all, put me off a little bit.

It was pretty awesome though, to be honest, but I fell in love with the College I stayed at, thanks to the wicked lecturer and just the fact it seemed quite nice...Balliol. Now all I've got to do is try and somehow worm onto a place there...

Someone at my sixth form is applying to Balliol for medicine. It looked like a cool place when I went there on the open day. Apparently they get more supervisions than most other colleges as well.

the fact that you need to be in the top 10% of all bmat scorers if you get below 3 A*s, and also the the lowest number of %A*s to be auto-shortlisted for interview in 2007 was between 8 and 9.

It is not cause and effect. It happens that a greater number of candidates that get an offer have more A*s at GCSE...not that having more A*s will get you an offer.

I know someone who got into Law at a more progressive college with only BBCC at GCSE! He did come from a less than perfect background though, so they took that into consideration.

Perhaps it's a good thing if people with problems interpreting simple data and appreciating accompanying information are deterred from applying - the BMAT and interviews might be painful. In the interests of providing a direct source... University of Oxford Medical School - How to Assess Your Chances: Some Statistical Information

Brasenose, meh. It's a college other than mine, so obviously inferior.

that's because originally most applicants will already have a high % of A*s. go see the website; "The average (median) applicant had 74% of their GCSEs at A*", so obviously most who get offers will have more A*s.
and you've somehow deviated from my original claim...i said they were gcse nazis meaning that they actively look for a high % of A*s (hence the whole if you get less than 3% of A*s you need to be in the top 10% of bmat)...never said that having more will not get you an offer.

Someone at your sixth form is incredibly cool.

Auto-shortlisted was the most important phrase in that entire sentence. While they might look at GCSE's, and automatically give you an interview if you have a lot, even if you don't they look through your entire application and give you an interview if you think you deserve it. Nazi's were never that compassionate.

(By the way, if it's GCSE Nazism you're after, look no further than Birmingham.)
