Right, so today I had the chance to change my subjects. I asked if I can change my I.C.T to Computing because I find I.C.T really boring, just learning about word/excel etc. However, many people I asked about it said that I made a bad choice because Computing is harder, many people switch from Computing to I.C.T rather than from I.C.T to Computing. Also, my lessons might be swapped around so the teachers that I've already settled with.
Will Computing be better for me in the future? Should I not care about my timetable being changed?
well i kinda generalized it to university level. but you do make stuff like a hotel booking application on the 2nd year using 3rd generation language whereas ict uses microsoft powerpoint.
Computer content is "harder" but easier to get better grades
ICT content is "easier" but marked by a random grade generator (You could know it inside out, and still not get an A/B like myself)
Although computing is regarded as a 'better' subject than ICT, they're both different. ICT tends to be more business orientated and is more vague when describing types of software. The subject concentrates more on the practical application of ICT and how it can be used in business.
Go for Computing if your interested in programming and stuff a load of ppl that dont understand coding etc go into ICT so you would get much money in ICT than computing lol
Depends what you want to do later. ICT is much more about how businesses use computers for data processing. Computing is about problem solving so you have to work out solutions to problems, then program them. If you want to do Business Studies later on, then ICT is for you; if you want to do something logical or go to a good university then Computing has a ton more credibility.
For example, ICT is on the Russell Group list of 'weak' subjects, whereas 7 Cambridge universities consider A Level computing to be useful to entry to CS courses.
Also, if you are already doing any subjects on the 'weak' list, eg Media studies, business studies etc, then you really should ditch ICT immediately because a combination of weak subjects will automatically bar you from lots of unis.
Well, thanks everyone for the contributions. Just changed from I.C.T to computing, missed some lessons :< I'm thinking of getting Visual Studio (Computing program), in the school, they use 2005, would it be better if I get the 2008 version? Are they any different?
For the programming we Visual Basic 2005 Express, (the Express versions are a free download from Microsoft), the 2008 version is also available and although it contains lots of new features, for what you will using it for you won't notice any difference. I think that as a student you can download the full version of Visual Studio 2005 or 2008 providing your college is a participating college with Microsoft, check out Dreamspark on the web. However, the free Express versions are more than enough for what you need for the course.
As someone who does both (which I now regret) I must say that computing is by far the more interesting, as ICT is basically the same stuff I did at gcse, for extremely basic things (changing a pictures size..)
The "practical" side of ICT is basically do something, screenshot it, write how you did it, print it.
whereas with computing, there is alot more to think about and you get more out of it.

Does it balls .. In ICT, you use Access & Ecxel databases and you dont use any powerpoint .... so thats a pure ******** .. ...
Also, some universities dont even consider computing or ICT as an A level which is stupid

ehm, i was thinking of access but typed powerpoint...
But which uni doesnt consider computing? I bet its the course. I applied to cambridge and imperial and they didnt have a problem with computing. And no i didnt get rejected because of it, cambridge rejected me after the interview, imperial got me a place
And kindly if you make correction can you not put artificial additives in it? its like you're putting colour to your food but its like bad for people's health. learn some manners, you're supposed to be civilized not some monkey hanging around the internet
well i think its called the silver line off microsoft its free you see and you get visual basic and C# and c++ its very helpful in computing and i should no as i am doing my computing homework atm
Im making a chat program across the school network much like MSN(except of course five billion times better). This is advanced higher computing.
Go for computing, ICT is a waste of time - unless you have your career aspirations in the path of a data inputer person (drone). You know the one i mean, The ones who work in the big telephone companies and enter in all of those glorious numbers and stuff.
Computing is far more interesting and trust me, thats where the money is.
