no...you dont have to give it to them, so dont....they can access your account from their account
your school would ruin your UCAS application because? they wouldn't and so just give it if they force you to lol

I thought everybody had to do that

Your head of year or wahtever will have like a huge database of all the students theyre sending off applications for, so I'm sure they'll have it anyway. Once you're done, the teacher writing your reference sends it to them, they attach it, and then send it off for you once everything is completed.
They also want to check to make sure you've not made any huge mistakes, Im sure they dont wnat to snoop at stuff.
They already know it all anyway; its just grades and details like address etc.
We gave ours in when we applied.

You dont have to, we never did and our college managed to do everything via their account!!
Reply 6
You shouldn't need to do this. The second you click 'submit' your details are automatically forwarded to your centre (school/college) and they can look through it and if there's any mistakes they reset it so you can edit the wrong bits and they send you an e-mail informing you of this.

Innit, we wrote ours down when we applied. Don't feel uncomfortable about giving them your details, they'll have to check your stuff to make sure its all ship shape anyway. Relaaaaax, they just want to make sure its as good as it can be.

They shouldn't need to. In theory they can look and attach references through their own account. They don't need it, unless somehow they haven't managed to work out how to use their own account.
why do you care?? Its not as if they are going to be malicious....

Don't they have it anyway? Some pupils at my school had forgotten their passwords (and their memorable answers ), so my Head of Sixth went and got a folder that had everyone's UCAS user name and password (despite the fact none of us had given them our details).

They say this is the only way to attach the reference

This is a lie. Be suspicious. :hmmm:

and they want to look through all our details and check they're correct.

You can print off a copy of your details and give it to them in hard copy. They can proof read a hard copy a lot more effectively, too.
We gave ours to our tutors, too. I don't have a problem with it; they want us to get into the best university possible (that's right for us) so... :p:

we gave ours but we didnt directly tell them it

wrote it on a piece of paper and put it in a jar so if any candidate forgot there ucas and pswrd then they could jsut get it from the jar lol

but other than that our teachers are doing everything from there accounts. They cannot change anything, they can only look at everything(and tell you what may be wrong) and write the reference.

at our school they made us set a password using their formula...first intial, surname and year :s-smilie:
We didn't have to give ours in. Each school has a different code that has to be put in when applying, which allows them to look through the things of all the people applying through there
Reply 16
Nope we didn't give it.
Reply 17
they do it just in case you forget your password or username and can't log on to apply.
Reply 18
We had to give our college counselor our password and username, and she uploaded the reference only if you were done with the other parts. Wasn't too happy about it but it has to be someone other than you who uploads your reference and they need to know your details for that.

As long as you applied through your school using their buzzword, they can access your application that way. So they don't need your username or password.

But if you've applied as an individual, either because they've told you to or by mistake, then they cannot see your information. They would need your details to log in to add the reference.
