Can I use my university ID card to claim student discounts, ie Topshop, New Look etc?
Or do I need like a UCAS card or something?

XOXO

I don't know why shops are so anal about giving student discount..

Why advertise student discount if you're going to be a dickhead about what counts as a student, and what counts as proof of being a student.

they always seemed to take my uni i.d as a form of student discount i.d. In fact it even worked in the USA when i went to the Natural History Museum and got student entry price Some people (especially new staff) would be heisitant about putting it through if they weren't too sure cos they wouldnt want to get in trouble and other people are just jobsworths.

I think you're expected to have an NUS or NUS Extra card, but I'd say it's worth a try with your ordinary student ID - I mean, it does prove you're a student doesn't it!

The student IDs for Sussex double as an NUS card, which is quite useful

I used my college ID card that not even valid any more the other day. A uni ID card should be fine!

(p.s. 20% student discount at New Look atm )

i ordered an NUS extra card becausethe Bristol students union website said that a normal student card wouldn't entitle us to a lot of the discounts, but mostly because you get 5% off at amazon and free delivery on orders over £15. I use amazon quite often and it costs nearly £3 a time for delivery.

I always get my discount if i show my University Student Card but i have tried to get special NUS offers of the occassion and they didn't recognise the card. Also, some Unis aren't members of NUS so unless it is specified as a NUS discount they should accept a general student card.

If it suggests a student discount is available, of course they aren't going to insist you're an NUS member. That would be bloody ridiculous, counter-productive and quite offensive to non-members.

**** the NUS. The world would be a far better place without it.

Last time I went into newlook - last month, the girl at the till said from now onwards they only accept NUS card as proof of getting a student discount.
Seems it isn't like that across the board.

Reading all these replies is making me very upset about having forked out £10 for the NUS card - it seems totally unnecessary!
