Default Degree In Linguistics - Worthwhile / Worthless?

im interested in the linguistics aspect of english & there are universities that offer it as a single honors, im just wondering whether such a degree might be less worthwhile / less highly regarded than other types of english degrees?

As far as I'm aware, it is not less regarded than other English degrees at all! Linguistics is a fabulous intersect between the Arts and the Sciences, showing you can apply scientific rigour at the same time as being creative and "thinking outside of the box"

Of course, how well it is regarded will depend which uni you go to, and what degree level you come out with. The fact that unis like Cambridge and York, UCL and Edinburgh (not to mention MIT, Harvard, Yale, etc. in the U.S.) offer it as a single honours degree programme should show that it's a well-regarded field in its own right
