Okay, currently doing French, Maths, Chemistry, Geography and Politics at AS Level.
However... I'm thinking of possibly swapping maths for bio.
Maths is fun, i love it. got A* at GCSE, always enjoyed it. However i've ALWAYS ENJOYED biology too. and it would be so much more relelvant for medicine than maths. and so fun/ apparently easy to catch up (only done 2 weeks on work.. and its not that hard) Rightly or wrongly i kinda regard maths and chem in a higher category in diffulctiness than biology, and i need top grades, and bio would be easier. However maths is SO SO SO USEFUL, for not just med school, but for any other career I may decide to do... (SPS, geography, even useful for french and law... general logic and briany skills!)
but yeh... what's your advice. i am by no means dead set on medicine, hence why i'm taking subjects that give me a year or two to figure stuff out. is it possible to get into med school with chem and maths... (ANYONE HERE DONE IT?) and yeh... just general advice!!!
i would think about it carefully but personally i would swap geography or english lit since u said u might want to do politics at uni. but if you do decide to do medicine, i think not having biology wont do u too good.
You wont need politics a level to study it at uni.
I'd also suggest you swapped it for biology, you can always (and probably should if you're thinking about it for dgeree level) do your own reading.
I think you should keep maths - it's a good subject to have for pretty much any subject, whereas politics is very limited, and perhaps even unecessary - it's never asked for, and as far as I'm aware, nto even "highly recommended".
But at the end of the day, remember how important it is to take subjects that you enjoy.
If we're talking about relevancy for medicine, biology is really useful..so I would urge you to swap either french, geography or politics for it, particularly politics as it's not compulsory to have it for alevel to study it for uni. Maths Bio Chem makes a really good combo for medicine and the other two would be good for a broad base.
agree with the others. You dont need politics. You could just look through the AS/A2 textbooks and kind of make sure you understand the basics? x
I know but my back up for emdicine would be a french degree or politics/geography... i know i'm a dufuss... but yeh.... politics looks like so much fun! and geog is ok... im taking it cos its my back up plan and im good at it...

yeh you would still have a chance. Its just medicine is really competitive so it would be better to have biology and chemistry.
For medicine there are only a few med school which say you dont need bio. I wouldnt risk it... you already wont get into places like sheffield, newcastle or cambridge because you don't do 3 sciences (maths is counted as a science).
Check with requirement for politics at uni because you probs dont even need to do politics at AS... the same with georgraphy.
If you want to do law i'd say do eng lit instead of geog...
Also, you dont need to do a law degree to become a lawyer. You can do a science degree then a conversion course.
So what I suggest is look at all the entry requirements for all subjects you are considering and pick the subjects which tick the most boxes.
For med you will need work experience so its worth sorting that out asap.
oh, and I don't think that biology is necessary for all medical schools, but a significant amount.
i really enjoy politics... and frnech... they are my favs! geog isnt really... its ok... studtying rivers atm which i hate... but human geog will be good.

if i did what i enjoyed i would do bio, maths, geog, pol and french... but medicine requires chem... therfore i'm doin chem, maths, geog pol french... but know have hte desire to do biology too!!

i know politics a level isn't necessary... but i really want to do it. i wnat to learn a language... therefore i do french... and then maths cos i love it... then chem for med... then geog cos a geog degree looks good....
for a politics degree i could get in with anything really... but politics/history/eng lit would be very useful, and classics, philosphy, geoggers, languages, maths... would be helpful... hence my choices.
i just don't want to be disadvantaged if i decide to go to med school... im an art farty person who wants to do med at uni!! gah!!!!!
io hate making decisions. this is so hard and is stressing me out!
If you don't want to be disadvantaged when applying/studying Medicine, I would say that you really do need to do Biology. But keep Maths and Chemistry. Drop one of your other subjects instead, because as an above poster said, Maths+Chem+Bio is a really strong combination.
