Okay so I've got it down to my final 4... I've looked at their bits in the prospectuses and their websites and the Oxford college pros and cons etc.
Does anyone have any idea which I should pick out of these? I'm applying to medicine and I'm from a state school... I'd like kitchen facilities (does Somerville have them?) and yeah. I basically just want a college where I'm most likely to get in, as I like the look of all 4 of these. Any pros and cons of each of them? I've looked at the Norrington table and St Hughs suddenly did pretty well in 2008 so I'm not sure if I should apply there?
Don't be put off Hugh's by the Norrington - it's generally a pretty undersubscribed college, and even if it's not this year, they can just send you elsewhere. it's also supposed to have some of the most comprehensive kitchen facilities in the uni, if that's what you're after. Anyway, I think martin101 on here is a medic at Hugh's, so if you want subject specific information, try messaging him.
I really like St. Catz, it has a very campusy feel and is in a green, quiet location and seems not to suffer from some of the snobbery and up-your-own-arseness that accompanies some of the grander, more traditional colleges. Hertford I don't know much about except that it is one of several colleges stuck between broad street and high street that, to me, all resemble each other quite a lot (Jesus, Hertford, Queens etc.). I can't comment on the others.

Just to correct you... st hughs is not one of the colleges stuck between broad street and high street (its on the banbury/woodstock roads). It looks nothing like Jesus,Hertford or Queen's and it has its own campusy feel on its own green, 14 acre quiet location...

Seconded

Um.... no it isnt. Its up north, banbury road I think. Hertford isnt between Broad St. and High St. Either?

Sorry I meant Hertford, and it is sort of between Broad and High.

Slightly perplexed, thanks.
Looking at your list, have you considered St. Anne's? I saw Somerville, St Hugh's and St. Catz, and beloved St. Anne's seemed to be missing.

You must be architecturally blind. Queen's looks like Versailles dropped into the middle of a bunch of Tudor quads.
probably worth mentioning that medicine has pretty intense pooling and centralised admissions etc so it really doesn't matter where you apply to in terms of 'playing the numbers'.
as for where to go, depends what you want. hertford is small and has no grass. hughs has lots of grass. catz and somerville have quite a bit too. catz is very modern. i like how it looks. some don't. i hear catz has an unpleasant atmosphere, but i really couldn't say. somerville bar is awful if you care about such things. really, you should go visiting. hughs is probably the best for kitchens though. i know that hertford is pretty awful for that. also, somerville people live out at some point (i think, i know someone from somerville who did so i presume they all do). that might affect your thinking. hughs doesn't. don't think hertford do. don't know about catz for certain.
