If you budget £15 per day you'll be safe everywhere in the 3rd world (so excl places like Singapore & Hong Kong), and you might end up with some to spare. That would be my advice as far as food/accomm & day-to-day expenses go.
You should budget separately for activities like trekking, canoeing, rock climbing, and if your likely to do them a lot budget accordingly. £30 per activity should be a safe bet unless your looking to do anything really extravagant.
You should also budget separately for trains & city-city transport. In India its CHEAP, moreso than Thailand, though I'm not sure exactly how much. In Thailand trains usually cost under £2 for a few hours - night trains are extra. Malaysia - similar. Vietnam - more expensive, take buses. China - expensive but convenient. I would recommend trains everywhere except in Vietnam.
Do you actually know where your going to go? "etc" As I said £15 will be safe outside Australia/NZ, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Its a stretch in China aswell unless you know what your doing.
EDIT: I survived on less than in my post, but its better to over budget than under budget.
I was gonna give some advice to the OP but this thread has it all covered.
