Default meeting with oxford admissions tutor tomorrow! some advice needed...

I am visiting Oxford Harris Manchester College tomorrow in order to look around and meet the admissions tutor for Law to discuss my application, i.e. qualifications etc. before I apply...

The problem is I have never been there before and have no idea how is it going to be...friendly, relaxed atmosphere (it is not an interview at the and of the day) or quite scary?

I would like to know whether I should just dress casually or wear something smart?

Sorry if i am posting in the wrong place, but i just though there might be people here who did something similar and could advice me on those issues...

Thanks guys!

My friend's interview specified 'whatever you feel comfortable in', he went for Next trousers and a loose shirt with no tie. I'd be comfy but slightly smart, personally.
I'd say just be polite; open doors, say 'thank you for allowing me to come' etc.
Above all, just be yourself, let your enthusiasm for your subject shine through

Harris Manchester won't be that formal, it's quite a new mature college. Just be yourself, and wear what they hell you want, smart-causal and all that jazz. Good luck!

I'd go for something fairly smart, like a shirt and good trousers. Always err on the side of overdoing it, in circumstances like this - it's better to be seen to have made too much effort than too little. I'm afraid I can't help with the actual interview part, though good luck with it

It is not an official interview, however, I presume the admissions tutor I will be meeting tomorrow is one of those people who will be considering my application once it is sent...I think I will just wear jeans and a smart jumper, smart coat and that's it...that should do

Harris Manchester isn't that new... but OP, it doesn't matter. As with all Oxford colleges, no one cares if you wear jeans and a jumper or if you want to go a little bit smarter. I'd stay clear of a suit though!

I had tutes at Harris Manchester for Roman law in my first year and it's such a beautiful college, everyone's really laid back and friendly and their food is much nicer than at my college :p You'll be fine. x

Well, in it's Oxford incarnation it's only been around for a hundred years, which doesn't seem that long compared to other colleges; it does admittedly have a longer history as an academy in Manchester, York and London. Gosh, I know too much about this.

Lol. I guess comparatively then. My college was given college in 1973, and I just would have considered that 'new.' Then again, mine looks like a collection of 1960 eyesore concrete blocks whereas HM looks like a 'proper' Oxford college.

Here goes the update on my day at Oxford
First of all, I loved the college...It was small, beautiful and somehow welcoming...The admissions tutor was brilliant-showed me around, explained the course, teaching etc. and answered all my questions regarding my application...She also said that the course I am currently studying on is a very good one and they have accepted students from there in the past, so yeah-a bit of hope However, she also said that there are usually approx. 50 students per 5 places for Law at this college, so its going to be a very tough competition...

Anyway, thanks for all your advice guys and wish me luck!
