The new bloody timetable!!!!

Despite following these instructions '

Go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options, then click on the Connections tab
For dial-up connections: In the Dial-Up Settings box, click to select your Internet Service Provider, then click on the Settings button.
For Broadband connections: Click on LAN Settings
Click in the Proxy server check box and click on Advanced.
At the resulting window, click to put a tick in the box next to "Use a proxy server" then click on the Advanced button.
[NB: If there is an Automatic Configuration setting, click to remove the tick in the box next to "Use automatic configuration script." This can be used to toggle the web cache setting off and on.]
In the HTTP box, type this: wwwcache.york.ac.uk with port number 8080
In the Secure box, type this: wwwcache.york.ac.uk with port number 8080
Click on OK, then OK again, and OK again.

I still can't view the timetable, in fact the interenet can't disply anything because i need to 'verify proxy settings' but i don't know what that means!! Please help:frown: Is it just me or can no else get it to work either?

Are you using Internet Explorer, or Firefox?

Try that http://www.york.ac.uk/services/cserv/net/vpn/

or that http://www.york.ac.uk/services/library/elibrary/webcache.htm#ie

The new timetable is awful.. we used to have a beautiful timetable and now its all gone...

If you're off-campus then you need to VPN first, there's no point in using the proxy server unless you need to go from inside campus to outside it. The VPN takes you inside campus, from there you shouldn't need the web cache. But what timetable thing is this? I've not heard of it...
As cullmac says, using the VPN will be your best bet

The proxy does work to get inside campus from outside (for me, at least).

Yeah, What is all this? Looking like its a way to access the york network if you not in york university to use a computer there? But i don't have a email yet. i have a login name.

Well, I don't know anything about proxies and whatnot, but even I got it to work. And I'm not even in the country.

For Firefox, go: Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Settings > "Manual HTTP Proxy Configuration" > fill in "HTTP Proxy" and "Port". Done.

Basically to get your timetable you go to: http://sws.york.ac.uk/Reporting/Individual, change option 1 to "students", leave option 2 on Name, and enter your full name with surname first in option 3 (e.g., SMITH JOHN or something). On the following page, you probably want to search for weeks 1-10 (option 2) and leave everything else as default.

ceteris paribus

It only works when you're connected via the VPN or the proxy (instructions for which are above), or you're on the York network. The timetable is the one for all your lectures and stuff

So, thanks to this thread, I just found out my timetable existed and worked out how to access it...

I have more than 3/4 lectures a week, no?!

(Assuming there are more contact hours on top of these...)

Depends on your course. Anything that needs a room booking (which is basically all your lectures, seminars, etc), should appear on the central timetabling server, if you have lots of tutorials or whatever, then they probably won't appear on there
