Default is it safe to use online auction sites?

is it safe to use online auction sites? when your personal details like your address or name is given out how can you be sure it will remain confidential or if the person you're buying from or selling to will keep your details, etc?

why would the buyer need YOUR details? They won't have your address I don't think. I thought you were worried about giving out your details as a buyer.

well you can't be sure of anything at all. You can't be sure you won't get mugged when you're walking down the street. You can't be sure that the nice old lady next door isn't really a homicidal maniac.

Nothing in life is SURE, but thousands of people use online auction sites and don't have anything weird happen as a result of them submitting their information, so you just need to have a little faith.

edit: and as a seller, you don't give the buyer your details anyway. Why would they need them?

if you're talking about ebay, sellers do not give out their address. It's that simple.

look, if you're not comfortable with being a seller on those other sites where you have to reveal your address (which I've never heard of before!), then don't be. OR use ebay, where you don't have to give out your address if you're a seller.

You're making a very unnecessary big deal about it.
