oxford head of undergrad admissions:
if you do the ib it's easier to get in if you miss your grades ie if you get a 39 not a 40, when the point drop was in an unrelated subject.

all the unis are way more used to ib applicants nowadays than previously.

uni's are pretty used to IB students now, i would say that it gives you a higher chance to distinguish yourself from other candidates than alevels do, a very high IB score makes people sit up and take notice far more than A grades at A level do as there is a general perception (i think justified) is that is is a more considerable challenge.
