hey, i'm studying chem, maths and biology at AS at the moment. And i was always planning to study chemistry at uni. until i started looking into pharmacy.

My GCSE's are :- Double A* in science, A* in maths, 4 A's in I.T, A's in german, history, media, R.E and a B in english language.

I'm most likely going to get either AAA or AAB in AS (AAA is predicted) Also i'm doing alot of extra curricular activities and work experience to put towards it.

Hoping to apply to Cardiff, Nottingham are the only definites as of yet. What are my chances and also any more advice about it all?

Your GCSEs are fine. The AS subjects you are studying are ideal - typically, top Pharmacy schools desire Chemistry and a science subject (Biology/Physics/Maths). Given you get AAA or AAB (and predicted that) you should stand a good chance with any Pharmacy school.

ECs and work experience are a bonus, but don't stray away too much from your studies.

I live in Nottingham, and so have spoken to most some students/ staff and they're all really nice. I think it can be quite competitive to get onto the course, but I think they have good facilities, and the Medical School (which you might be in from time to time) is near the campus and within a hospital so you have good access to stuff.

A job in a pharmacy would be helpful, or a general understanding of how the medication's used, issues with resistance etc?

Oh, forgot to add at my Nottingham interview they asked me to do long division and a few Organic Chemistry mechanism questions. They asked what I most enjoyed at A-level Chemistry, to which I said when we made methyl-benzene in our practical class (as it goes through so many stages, e.g. purification, et cetera), and so he asked me a few questions about that process (brought it on myself ). They also asked about the usual hobbies and interests, as well as my academic background.

ahh kind of dreading interviews, luckily my college provides ALOT of interview practice with some former admission tutors. Mechanisms like initiation, propagation and termination? or A2 stuff?

I'd say if you can take that onto A2, you'd have a really good chance, Pharmacy usually requires ABB

I'd strongly advise at least work experience as well, there is a lot to take in

That stuff annoyed me Nah, it was just drawing the simple ones - there was the one with the Benzene ring reacting with Bromine and drawing all those arrows etc. I can't remember all of them as this was over 2 years ago BUT, do note, I was a post A-level applicant so I had already completed my A-levels, so they may not even ask you mechanism questions (as edexcel mechanisms was introduced in unit 5 and may not have been taught fully at the time of my interview period). But be prepared with everything you've been taught as they can easily ask you what topics you've covered and which ones are your favourite and go on to asking you questions about them
