Hiya,

Saw your post and thought I'd have a gander - it's an interesting debate!

I'm in my third year studying Computer Games Modelling and Animation at University of Derby. I agree that an engineer and designer are way opposite to each other - I would advise deciding what it is you want to do - check out a few course - go to some open days - not necessarily to go but just to see the content on offer in both areas. Games is hard to get into, but IT in general is the way forward - its how we all work now and it's only going to get more advanced - so best to be ahead! Check out both areas and decide what route to go down.

Here's a link to my Uni course and a programming course - have a gander cause most computer games courses are going to be similar to this - so you can get an idea. If you want to make games visuals then I would choose at college level to go down the art route - IT in terms of communication won't help you as much. If your not arty - don't panic - do media - just something that will open you up to design in general and give you a bit of an art head, but will allow you to start 3D asap.
