Question about contingency places

Hey

OK I'll stick to the point so there's not much to read.

Lets say I apply to university 1,2 and 3 which require ABB for the courses I want to do.

I apply to university 4 which requires BBC as a back up.

Lets say I get into university 1 on a conditional offer, then I fail to make my grades, would I still be able to go to university 4?

Any advice about contingency choices on ucas?
You would get into university 4 if (a) you had accepted it as your insurance offer and (b) it confrmed the offer after results were published.

only if it is your insurance and you meet the offer

OK, so lets say I get conditional offers to all 4 unis.

Do I pick one to go to, and one insurance place? I can't deviate from that?

Sorry about these probably basic questions.

Correct. Read the UCAS website; or the wiki here.
