an open bonnet is held at an angle of 60 degrees to the horizontle by a verticlal force V applied at one end of the bonnet. the bonnet is 0.9m long has a weight of 25N and its centre of gravity is 0.35m from the hinge at O.

show that the vertical force applied at the end of the bonnet is 9.7N (i can do this bit!)

calculate the magnitude of the forces acting at hinge O - i have no idea what this means can anyone help?

thanks

the bonnet is at rest - so the forces acting on it have to be balanced. the force at the hinge will balance the weight of the bonnet and the vertical force V

so is it just the weight minus the vertical force???????
