[M1] - Edexcel Jun '01 - Question 5

Got a problem with part (c) and onwards on that question.

Have attacked it in the normal manner, have resolved vertically, then taken moments from various points... and tried equating... but sadly it keeps going around it circles :confused:

Can someone care to tell me the error of my ways.

this was a very badly worded question by edexcel, they didn't clearly state that the force at A would have still existed :cool:

they said it was removed but in a they said it tilt the log about d so this means wether the log is uniform or not it still did tilt it about d so you have to resolve it based on that .but I agree no one would concider that it's there,they should point out to that in the question

It wasn't badly worded, its a valid question.. its just a "trick" one which is cruel of them. You don't normally expect to have to incorporate the information from first question in such questions, hence it seems a little baffling...
