So one or two idiots tell you about an entire sub-culture of people? Where's the connection? I mean sure, people at Mccain rallies probably aren't going to vote Obama, but if they're doing it just for the racism, why would they be at the Mccain rally? What would be the point, why wouldn't they just vote for the white candidate?

Yes there are racists in the Deep South, no they're not exactly numerous and they're certainly not in any position to swing the election in any way whatsoever; the benefits of him being black massively outweigh the penalties in terms of both publicity and mobilising traditionally non-voting demographics.

Please understand if I don't think that you're knowledge of US politics and society is that high - you're demonstrating extremely simple assertions based on what seems to be extremely unreliable sources, and you're portraying them as fact. Race, outside the Rev. Wright scandal hasn't hurt Obama in any significant way. As someone else said, the only place racism could hurt him are places that he wasn't going to win anyway.

The point is that various people are voting for McCain as they feel Obama is a "terrorist" or a "socialist (not exactly a bad thing)"

I'm not saying all McCain supporters are racist, but if race has helped anyone, it's been McCain.

That has nothing to do with race.

>90% of black people are voting for Obama. That's unparalelled in American electoral history. What % of white people aren't voting for Obama because of race, and which states are they in? Ohio? Florida?

Maybe not race, but with his background none the less.

Is there a way to validate that info? There's no telling what %of people aren't voting Obama because of his race.

After eight years of awful Republican leadership, you'd think this'd be a walk in the park for the Democrats, yet somehow its not...
Whats an Obama? :s
Metrobeans
Watch out for the closet racists....

Argh, what are you implying? That everybody who supports McCain/Palin is a closet racist, or something?

No, I think you should read through the thread first, we've got past that..
The Rednecks were never going to vote for a Democrat (or perhaps even vote at all). South hasn't been Blue in decades.

I'd say its 80%. I'm going to Missouri election weekend for Get out the vote in Kansas City. I have never been to a state in between the Left Coast and the East Coast, so should be interesting...

Well it's because for a Republican McCain has always been rather popular.
As much as I'm hoping for an Obama win, there has been talk among the pundits lately that this could simply be a case of the "Bradley Effect" which has hurt many black politicians in the past.

even though Obama's at a 10+ point lead at the moment, it's going to be devestating if somehow McCain sneaks in there.

As a 'right-winger', I do want to see McCain win.
Furthermore, I think it will be great to have Palin as Vice. She reminds me somewhat of Thatcher.

Personally, I feel Obama is playing the race card too much. 'Im black this, Im black that...', its like, I have eyes. And I see this to be slightly stupid, considering race shouldn't be brought into it.

I think its a bit unfair to inaugurate Obama with still two weeks to go.

But another thing which is slightly off topic, but not really; why is it that people don't support Obama are apparently racist? Its rediculous.

McCain for President!

Rofl another ignoramus. How dare you compare Palin to Thatcher, she has nothing on her at all. Thatcher had a phd in chemistry, Palin can't even say what newspapers she reads after being repeatedly asked and took 6 years to complete a 4 years communications degree

They may of both had tits, but that's all they had in common, thatcher had balls, Palin is just a pussy masquerading as a "maverick" - whatever that means! Nothing "maverick" about wanting to blow up the middle east, thumping your bible and asserting your love of guns.

Thatcher was a legend and a political genius. Please never ever compare the two again.

I'm very shocked by your comment that "I'm a right winger by British standards, so I support the American right wing too" despite the fact that Barack, shock horror, probably corresponds to your views much more closely then the republicans do - unless you vote the BNP? oops...even the BNP are "socialist" by the standards of republicans....actually I can't think of a British political party comparable to the republicans that would just leave people in the gutter and call it economic growth when rich people get richer and nobody else gets any growth in their incomes. "trickle down!" yes! It'll trickle down, let me get past 10 million dollars in my account and it'll trickle down to the plebs! We know all about economics - after all, we started sub-prime mortgages.

BTW: What do you mean Obama's race? He is mixed race...not sure what on earth you're talking about.

Then the accusation has changed, and is now fundamentally different.

Then how do you know there are a lot, and how do you know where they live?! :s-smilie:

Why is Obama better again?

A little boy from Nevada who is "special" is going to have his parent's coerced by the McCain campaign so that he will end up being taken into a voting booth under the guise of him "seeing democracy in action". He will then proceed to "talk" to the electronic voting machine and tell it that all votes must go to McCain. :yup:

Nobody puts Micah in the voting booth.

Because he won't let wealth "trickle down" or any of that ********. He's not about making the rich richer at the expense of everyone else, more than I can say for others:rolleyes:

He's the UK equivalent of a conservative; he's hardly going to shake up the system and bring capitalism crashing down.

The south has always been more racist and conservative than say... New York.

I think you'll find he isn't. And you don't need to "bring capitalism crashing down" to help people:rolleyes:

Riiight...

This is where you make the next argument that you made earlier, which was that large numbers of people in swing states will vote for Mccain based on the colour of his skin. I can't see it, and you've provided nothing but anecdotal evidence. It's not even like it's a commonly known theory, you're the only person I've ever heard talk about it...

I think you'll find he isn't. And you don't need to "bring capitalism crashing down" to help people:rolleyes:

Yes he is; he's not a social democrat, and he's to the right of the Labour party. He'd be a moderate conservative in this country. What policies of his do you think Labour would embrace, if any?
Personally, I'd put my money on Obama.

But then again, nobody who actually cares about the race would take my bet either. They'd lose.

PS, if anyone here feels like gambling, I'll put up maybe £200 (we can negotiate to more), any takers?

Of course not, but I worry about this.
