Hi there. I have only had two emails from Cambridge - the first notifying me that I must complete the SAQ, the second an acknowledgment that I have submitted it.

I have applied to Downing College. I hear some people have already received emails from their chosen colleges (e.g. Christ's, King's and Homerton) informing them of significant dates etc. and alluding to the fact that they should prepare for interviews. I have had nothing like this from Downing yet. I was just wondering, does this mean that my application is still being considered or that it has been rejected? Do the various colleges respond at different times and in different ways? Tar kids.

All Colleges are different. Don't expect to hear anything until mid-November. If you hear anything before then, its a bonus. Don't worry.

Don't worry. From here on in, colleges work at their own pace. A few have already given out specifics about interviews and the like, but I'd wager that the majority of them will wait at least until the deadline for SAQ submission has passed before doing anything more.

On the subject of emails, anyone else find that they crash whatever computer it is you open them on? I've recieved 4 emails from Cambridge now, and they've all successfully crashed the computer. Grr!

I applied to Downing as well and I've received 1 e-mail so far, IIRC. It was just asking me to specify if I was applying for Bio or PhysNatSci. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm applying to Clare all I got was an email asking for SAQ and then another email reminding me that I need to send off SAQ (...oooops lol)
Still need to send that!

I just got a letter with some essay cover sheets coz I have to send 2 sample essays to the college for the course I am applying to.

That's all.

I've heard that Downing are always notoriously late with giving out interviews and sending out offers/rejections so I'm assuming they're not going to be the sort to shower you with emails and letters either. Doesn't bode well for my nerves but what can you do?

Someone's mentioned colleges asking for essays to be sent ahead. I've got my email from Queens' acknowledging my application, but nothing about essays, although I know that college does ask to see them. Anyone got any insight into when I may hear about that? Will it be if/when I get invited to interview, or are they seen before, and used when deciding who to interview?

Well I got a letter from Clare with 2 cover sheets saying that I have to submit 2 essays by a deadline of 17th November.
My friend who's applying to Peterhouse got a similar letter and her essays have to be sent by the same deadline.

I assume they will want to see the essays before you go to interview, as they might want to discuss the content of them.

It says in the prospectus though, not to send anything to a college until they ask you to.

I'm sure they will send a letter soon from your college asking you to submit essays.

The only emails I've had are:
SAQ - here it is, fill it in
Magdalene - fill in your SAQ asap please and here are the details of roughly when interviews are and here are the details about written work that you must submit
SAQ - yay you're done and we've got it
Magdalene - a reply to an email I sent asking about the essays that I'll send in

ditto about they'll wait till the SAQ deadline before sending anything more...it makes sense I guess

I've heard nothing about submitted work required at Fitzwilliam... They better not give me like, only a week.

You may be interested to refer to the 2008 dates for interview on the Downing website. I heard a week before last year from Oxford, and Cambridge interview 90%. So chances are if you think you deserve one you will get one. Don't worry, don't expect to hear anything or a while.

well i'm an international student and i applied to cambridge for geography and i need to know if i've been chosen for an interview or not so i can apply for my visa. I"M so scared
does anyone know when do queens' college will start mailing letters out by. should i call them and ask them to fax it to me?

Email the admissions tutor, explaining why you need the info earlier (esp. if the estimated processing time for the visa is long), and ask if they can email you the invitation. Don't get your hopes up but it's worth a try (:

I was just wondering: if you don't get an interview would they e-mail to tell you?
I'm wondering because it would really be painful not to be hearing anything and then December comes, and you still haven't lost hope thinking your interview will be really late... I mean, I think it would only be fair if you got an e-mail or a letter saying that you'd been rejected without an interview.
