US university guides

Are there any online *impartial* guides to US unis like there are for UK ones (such as the Times, guardian, push, here etc.)?

Need to decide on my favourites for a year abroad and struggling to get a lot of info on them as, apart from California, there isnt much talk of the unis I'm interested on this forum.

I'm looking at Purdue, Uni of Washington Seattle and Urbana-Champaign in particular

cheers
Those are all good universities...what do you want to know?

I'm guessing a ranking, since that's what he said in the OP...

not necessarily a ranking, more of a profile of the place which is the bit that matters most to me. Considering my degree isn't going to have the name of the abroad uni, its more the experience that matters to me

USNews is the only one people actually care about, and it pretty much has the public monopoly on rankings. However, you gotta pay to view all their info. There is also another website similar to TSR but dedicated to American universities.

The UK ones are hardly impartial. They float UK schools in the most bizarre ways in their global rankings, for example.

Imperial College over UChicago - is that a joke?

The blurbs on Princeton Review's website are probably the most "unbiased" online sources of information about American colleges. The quotes come directly from students at those universities, and PR is usually pretty detailed and somewhat accurate. You'll have to register, but it's free.
