You need to be careful about whether bills are included in the rent or not. As if not then you will need to budget yourself...and prepare for shocks. Another thing that is important is the distance from your campus, is it within walking distance or will you need to budget transport costs into the equation? One major thing is to try and talk to past tennants to chack out what the landlord is like. That tends to be the biggest problem when privately renting, problems with the landlord make living there so uncomfortable and can sometimes put you out of pocket. Erm, proximity to essentials such as shops, is maybe something to also consider. The security of the area, does the area see much trouble in the way of vandals and thiefs? But also do not rush, make sure that you can see yourself living there (and with the other occupants) comfortably. Watch out for estate agents....they belong in hell!
