Nottingham NUS delegate elections

Hey guys- just to let you know the NUS delegate elections are coming up this month.

Basically, Nottingham Uni sends about 20 students down to Blackpool next Easter to represent our Uni at the NUS Annual Conference/Talking shop.

The Conference sets NUS policy for the next year, and the delegates have the opportunity to voice the opinions of our student body and vote on various things the NUS want to campaign and lobby the government for.

Issues on the agenda this year will include lifting the cap on top up fees, NUS reform, freedom of academic speech and other topical issues. The conference mandates the NUS exec to go out and represent the 5.2 million UK students' views to the wider world, so it's important that our 36,000 at Nottingham get their voices heard.

The conference runs from 31st March to 2nd April, you get free accomodation and transport and £5 a day for food.

Contact Wenjie Lee, SU democracy and communication officer at: [email protected]
to obtain further details and a nomination form. Nominations close Friday 6th Nove, Voting is at the end of November.

If you have an issue with the way the government deals with students, the University, the SU, NUS extra card/discount or anything else that affects you as a student, then it's an ideal chance to get your voice heard.

Other facts that may influence you running could perhaps be that it looks very very good on your CV, and is a great platform for entering or furthering your career in student politics

Anyway, for whatever reason you want to represent our fine University, I suggest you go for it- it's worth it even purely for the fun of running your own election campaign!
