Default Medicine 2009 at Oxford

Has anyone applied here?!? On all the forums, Cambridge appears to be the better of the Oxbridge pair for Medicine this year.

Is there something I don't know??

I've applied to Jesus by the way.

As in I've applied the Jesus College, Oxford

Man, nobody, other than me, at my testing centre applied to Oxford for medicine. I applied to Oxford(Trinity). I think it's because here, people have the conception that Oxford is a liberal arts school, while Cambridge, on the other hand, is the sciences school.

yikes.. ive applied to oxbridge too - cambridge. And feel exactly the same. I had a panic attack when i opened the first paper so had to calm myself down. Wasn't the best performance. I'm gutted.

However, on the bright side, i'm sure you'll be fine

I see you've applied for b'ham uni also - have you had any replies from them. I just got a vip email, nothing more.

I think the relative chance of getting into cambridge is actually higher than for oxford for medicine as there are more places available for preclinical at cambridge. Is it just me or do you have absolutely no idea how the BMAT went? I'm not sure whether I should give up on the idea of oxford now

Nah, not so much. There's also a proportional number of applicants for the places. This is especially true for internationals applying for medicine at Cambridge.

Yeah Im applying to Oxford too (Magdalen). Cambridge does seem to have the image of being more science based attached to it, but its the same course.

Whilst there are more places available in Camb, more medics apply there as they think they've got better chances.

Oxford's much nicer anyway

Yea, I agree. And there are more places, so I guess that'd attract more medics. Well, its better for us I guess.

The Oxford=Arts\Cambridge=Science is at best tenuously true, and certainly not relevant at the level of undergraduate education. Both have world-class academics in both arts and sciences.

The main difference for the medical course seems to be that at Cambridge you've more flexibility in Finals (BA) options. And a smaller chance of being able to stay where you are for the subsequent 3 years.

I applied open and got allocated to LMH.

After BMAT, i will be surprised if they dont take one look and throw in trash. It was shocking!
