So, how much do students at university spend on their mobile phones a month? I am offering monthly options because contracts tend to be monthly and PAYG users can work it out.
If over £50 please specify.
Do you call more or text more?
Who do you contact: friends or family?
If you are on contract, do you manage to stick to your allowed minutes/texts?

woah woah, you should jump on the blyk bandwagon, for FREE!! pow pow, get 1 sim card and use the invite codes you get to get 5 more on random names, so u end up with like a 1000 texts, and 500 minutes, i still run out but i end getting by on that
£15 a month contract - 500mins/500texts + one new handset per annum. Normally don't overspend on that, usually if I do it is because I am calling 0800 or 0845 numbers for things like utility providers. Also, I occasionally call someone in the Channel Islands which costs extra which is frustrating as most of the major providers count calls to the CI as international.

Can you get a new number if you want? I wouldn't just want blyk as my only sim.
I spend about £10 a month. I get 300 free texts (or 500 if I top up £15). I mostly text but do sometimes ring people. I don't really use my phone that much anyway.

yea its a new number, but dont really get what you mean, every sim has a new number....the service isnt really great all the time, bt thing is, its free and can spend the money i would spend on phones and bills on going out etc etc
How does that work? I'm desperately trying to reduce my £40 contract to £20ish cos I can't afford it...But I can't until Jan apparently!
It helps if you have a history with the provider. I pay £15 a month for a £35 contract - I've been with the same provider (O2) for several years so when I rang-up to cancel my contract (i.e. threatened to leave) they offered me really good deals to prevent me from taking my business elsewhere. If they know you're the kind of person who pays bills on time they'll be happy to keep you as a customer, if you're loyal.

Oh ok. I was just wondering cause the website advertises the fact that you can keep your current phone number, so I was scared they'd switch my current number to their own sim card.
I think I'll apply. I can use up the free texts and calls and then put the sim in a draw for the rest of the month

You have to wait until your contract is up for renewal. It's a good idea to look at all the other networks to find out what you can get, and write it down so you can argue well. Then phone up the renewal people and say what contract you want and what you want to pay for it. They will probably say no, so you need to argue with them lots, and if you don't get offered what you want then hang up. Next phone up the cancellations department and tell them why you are leaving. When I did that the man said I could have it straight away
im on pay as you go, before i started uni, i spent £10 a month and now £30 already this month... and it will carry on like that... meh, even though i get around 300 free texts, but i text alot, and call alot! and i have 1000 free texts or minutes to my 02 numbers, but its not letting me change the people i want on it, so not helpful! < they deduct £5 from my credit for that....... but luckily now im cutting down on texting. Now im going to resort to getting a contract phone....
I am on a contact with t-mobile and it's 30 a month and thats plenty, if not too much for me! It depends who you're likely to call i.e home, long distance relationships etc....
I'm on the dolphin package with Orange PAYG, and only spend about £10 a month as I text more than I call. Plus you get free facebook which is always good...
I spend £20-£30,my bills are much higher as I've got my 2 little sisters phones on there as well but I get the money off them. I text way more than I call, and never go over my allowance £180(on T-Mobiles Flext 35).
