X ~ N(5,2^2)

How do you work out P(|X-5|>3)

Does |X-5| mean the magnitude of X-5?

Thanks in advance.

yes

|X-5|>3 <=> X-5>3 or X-5< -3 <=> X> 8 or X< 2

so find P(X> 8 || X< 2) by shifting the variables to the standard Y~N(0,1)
