I think you've got to take colonialism out of the question here; British sovereignty in the Near East has been non-existent for decades (yes, I understand British governmental influence in Israel, but that's not part of this argument). Zionism, in my opinion, is a form of house hunting, and the Jewish population of the world needed somewhere to live, and they have a similar right to be there as do the Palestinians (I'm for a Palestinian state, and full Israeli sovereignty by the way, I'm not going to bum out Palestine on this one). The problems arise when one side feels they need to dominate the other, then you have a gradual decline to all-out war. As I see it, the Israeli's and Palestinians are two magnets, opposed to each other at the moment, because the Palestinians in Gaza voted in Hamas, and the Israeli electorate voted in Netanyahu's coalition. Hamas want to annhilate the Jewish race. Netanyahu wants full Israeli control in the Near East. Things like that, including settlement development supported by Netanyahu, mean that the magnets are not going to align, yet... But in relation to the actual thread, I digress. Sorry folks.
UGeNe, I don't want to shout you down here buddy, but colonialism isn't resettlement.
