Default which college?
 
Hello, im really struggling to choose a college when applying for durham (09). can anyone give me any advice to which are the better ones, and more traditional ones?

The more traditional ones are those around the historic centre of Durham, the older buildings (Georgian townhouses) along the Bailey. These are the "Bailey colleges" and include Castle, Hatfield, John's, Chad's and Cuth's. The Hill colleges are the newer (20th centrury) colleges, with Josephine Butler being the newest (2006).

So are you looking for something particularly traditional? Would you mind sharing a room? Doy you went self-catered or full-board?

I really should improve the wiki artciles, or create a "choosing a college" sticky.

Awww..thank you I thought there was one somwhere, probably written by Becca in the FAQ, but couldn't find it in my two minutes of searching With the greatest respect to Becca, I think we may need a slightly more detailed one (or at least have it outside the FAQ). Hm, that wasn't intended as a dig at you or anything, just pointing it out to the OP! It does look like it lacks a bit of detail, so developing a more in depth version could only help things. Who knows, it might even stop so many of these threads being created (though on second thoughts, that's probably unlikely to happen).

I want one of the more traditional ones, and id rather not share a room, but its not a huge problem. My brother is at Grey and i really like that, but dont want to go to the same one, so im looking for a similar college..
and full board would be a lovely treat

All colleges are fully catered except Butler and part of Cuth's, so you've got a pretty big choice there.

Could you go and visit your brother for a weekend or something and get him to take you around some.

Yeah, would like to point out that I made the FAQ about 3 years ago when I was in my first year and had a *lot* more time on my hands
Feel free to edit it with your mod pohwahz, just don't forget to lock it again when you're done
