Quick ratio question

This has been bugging me and I cant seem to get my head around it...

Is this right? nn+1:1n+1=n:1\frac{n}{n+1}:\frac{1}{n+1}=n:1

If n is 3 it makes sense to me, but what about if n is 114\frac{11}{4} or 3\sqrt 3

Does it still work (n:1n:1), if yes, how cuz i cant seem to get my head around it

Yes, that is correct as long as n is not -1 (to avoid division by 0). When you have a :, think of it as a division sign  ...
