Default times good university guide

how relevant is the time good university guide?
cause geography comes under the heading of "geography and environmental sciences" so loads of subjects come under that heading

i think my first choice is probably kings for BA geography i was just wondering whether its very well respected for that course?
cause it went down by like 10 places this year
will that make any sort of difference for when im trying to get a job?

'Not really'. It's year on year bizarre fluctuations are much less relevant than choosing a university with a course, structure and atmosphere you think you'll like. It's alright for getting a vague feel of the sort of area universities for geog are in, but not much more than that.

What this guy said.

Sadly, even though I know this to be true, the **** inside me likes to think they matter a lot, and thus if I go to a certain university it's sub-par when in reality it's not.

Yep, use league tables as a rough guide, not as concrete evidence determining how "good" a university is.

And I can't see there being anything wrong at all with BA geog at Kings. I would advise checking out the course and uni to see if you like it.

the course is perfect i just dont know whether its worth sacrificing going somewhere like edinburgh which is really high on the league tables to go somewhere with a course more tailored to me

i know it sounds silly

somewhere like edinburgh is likely to be a better uni to have a degree from

mostly because the few top unis are recognised. they may not be better but if you say "i went to oxford" everyone thinks immediatley a good degree.]]though tbh it depends what you want from your degree, and so many factors change employment prospects as well as the uni its not the worst thing in the world to go to a uni thats not deemed as so good (nots not in relevance to you, i have know idea what kings is like )

A 2:1 is a 2:1 regardless of where you got it from. Of course there are exceptions, of course. For example a geography degree from somewhere like Thames Valley will, of course, be nowhere near as well regarded as one from the top 5 universities.

But Kings is fairly high in the rankings too, it's when you are getting into the real low rankings that it's a problem, and only a small one at that.

Go to the university you want to go to and do the course more suited to you. Rankings are a load of rubbish. Being in London could help when it comes to getting some sort of work experience in your chosen career too.
