Well before I started AS-level Maths, everyone was saying how hard it is,and then when I started it was a real-shock indeed! We do mini-tests which I put no revision in and I got an E! But then for the next mini-test that I did lthis month,I put like a nights before revision and ended up with 80% which got me an A! I was shocked that a small amount of revision got me to an "A",I got 40/50 and now the next mini-test is in December. These are just practise papers made up of different past-paper questions. But our real exam is in January which is AQA C1 and I was looking at the past papers ,they looked quite easy and im sure I can easily get about a solid A/B. But alot of people in my class about 90% are struggling and they got like As at GCSE,I only got a B? How does this work out? Like now im getting addicted to practising different Maths questions and putting my full potential in,I just need to get to grips with Inequalities!
Im just not understanding how this is working out? In my class many people beat me in GCSE Maths and have a higher average GCSE Score but still I beat them on these mini preparation tests! Unless its just me practising easy questions that are in my textbook?
What do you guys think on what ive said and do you think AS-level Maths has become easier?
Re: How come AS-level Mathematics has become EASY!?!
At first I was finding AS Maths hard, but then it clicked and now I find it fairly easy... but so many people in my class dropped it due to finding it too hard, that the size of the class shrunk from ~18 to ~10 :\

Yeh Yeh same here LOL,Many people dropped it,just because they didn't get Basic Algebra! And found the work to hard!

if you mean AS maths is easier than A-level maths in previous years, i agree with that...
Re: How come AS-level Mathematics has become EASY!?!
When you have to remember all of C1 in the exam, it's a little more tricky. And i suggest you do revision before the exam, more than one night lolz. I have never revised for anything before but i found it very beneficial last year when doing C1 and C2. Glad your finding it easy, it's not bad when you get your head around all the first time differentiation and integration etc etc, but i wouldn't rely on the thought "Oh it's too easy for me" in the days/weeks before the exam
Oh, and you wanna try C3 if C1 is easy haha, i'm dreading C4, it gets harder by the lesson in A2!

from personal experience, maths AS is very hard for me, and hard for others :P
well done btw
I don't work very hard in class, not to my full potential, I chat to much to my friends,But then I just go over my notes and that before these little tests. But its only in Maths, not any of my other subjects?! But I think once C2 kicks in il find it alot harder but thats what people said about C1,so il have to wait and see!
Re: How come AS-level Mathematics has become EASY!?!
Depending on which exam board you had for GCSE Maths and which one you have for A-Level maths the difference in difficulty can be startling. I'm doing Edexcel Maths and that's supposed to be one of the hardest. However we tried some past papers from the 1980s for M2 and they were fiendishly difficult. C1 is quite easy but wait till u do FP1 if you're going to. It really makes you wonder how you can possibly cope with doing FP2 and FP3.
Re: How come AS-level Mathematics has become EASY!?!
C1 is mostly based on gcse maths so its not really difficult and i wouldn't say C2 is difficult either. + the exam board your doing is 1 of the easiest one.
Re: How come AS-level Mathematics has become EASY!?!
I did AS maths last year. I knew the work was hard but I enjoy the subject. When I started after a week I wanted to give it in but I found after a few months I got really into it. I'm not in my second year and in my AS's it was my highest grade. But don't get over confident, because when it comes down to the exam, you don't know whats going to happen.
