Can you gain a qualification in AS-Level Maths with just C1 & C2, and not S1? Or do you have to do an extra module in either D,M,S to gain the qualification in AS-level Maths? Or because I am currently doing C1 at AS-level Maths and then C2,S1, it will mean I will gain a qualification in AS-level Maths with Statistics?
As far as I am aware. In order to gain the maths qualification, you need to do 3AS modules. C1 and C2 being compulsory. The third one can be either D1, S1 or M1. You definitely need 3 though!
For A2 if you are wondering, you need to do C3 and C4. The third unit may be an AS or A2 unit. So if you're doing S1 this year, you may wish to continue onto S2 (A2 level stuff). However, you may wish to study a different unit, and for for M1 or D1 instead (both AS units).
I finished C1 today. Then I've got C1 in january exam.
I'm learning C2 and S1 from now till the 2 exams in june.
and then I will have AS Maths
next year i have to do c3 and c4, and can choose to do d1, m1 or s2... or if i really want, i can choose to do c3,c4, s1 and d1 and fp1fp2 and get as further for a maths degree
You need 3 modules for an AS qualification, of which two must be C1 and C2 (for an AS in Mathematics). I think it is also possible to do an AS in solely Applied Maths or solely Pure Maths, though in the latter case for example, the name of the qualification will be Pure Mathematics, not the normal Mathematics.

hope that helps...
How does that in any way help the OP?
The answer to your question is "no". C1 + C2 does not make any qualification.
as electriic_ink has said, C1+C2 does not make any AS qualification. you need an applied module (if you want it easy, S1, or D1...) or apparently on some boards, you can do C3 (bit surprised).
1 maths qualification = AS = c1 + c2 + 1 applied
2 maths qualification = A2 = c1 + c2 + c3 + c4 + 2 applied
(then there's further maths that can count as 1 and 2 more [where 1 more = as further and 2 more = as and a2 further maths])
1 maths qualification = AS = c1 + c2 + 1 applied
2 maths qualification = A2 = c1 + c2 + c3 + c4 + 2 applied
(then there's further maths that can count as 1 and 2 more [where 1 more = as further and 2 more = as and a2 further maths])
applied = s1-5 or m1-4 or d1-2
+ extra applied modules for an Additional Further Mathematics qualification
As far as I know, that'd be called "Pure Mathematics", and it has the structure:
AS: C1 + C2 + FP1 (all compulsory)
A2: C3 + C4 + either FP2 or FP3
At least, that's how it is on OCR.
Whatever the case, C1, C2 and one other module are required for an AS, and C3, C4 and another applied module are required for an A2.
Sorry I wasn't more clear.
WhatI meant was, they could do C1 C2 C3 to get an AS, but the combination they are doing now would lead to an AS in "mathematics". They asked whether they would get an AS in "pure and statistics", but that's not true, is it?
On WJEC, it is impossible to do FP1 before C4 (well, not impossible, but you know what I mean) because they're evil and won't change their syllabus.
I know because in my college, the further maths people have two classes: pure and applied. The pure classes are for the further maths people, and pure maths people, who will do C1 C2 and C3, while the applied classes are strictly for the further maths students who will do S1 S2 S3.

Long post, as usual. I drone.
In my humble opinion, it is better to do the whole Mathematics A2 in a year before proceeding to Further Mathematics A2 the next year.

I agree. I hate how my school handles it.
I mean, there are 47 further maths candidates - you'd think that that would be enough to have these sort of classes, wouldn't you?
