Re: The Consolidated Freeware, Shareware & Independent Games ThreadIt is indeed free, with an item shop being implemented so you can choose if or when you want to spend money!(Original post by Kslayer)
Really does sound promising! Is it free then? I should look than be lazy!
What took you away from wow to moving back to Mir?
I bet a lot of people were gutted when game network wrecked everything, I knew there were many multi's etc but people had to spend hours to get things, unlike wow your friends can't just boost you and the items are a lot rarer!
I'm scared of playing games like this you get a real sense of community and people get so emersed you never see them log off!
(not me, I mean I do log off
) I can remember going back to soma private servers whenthe game was really dead because of all the exploiting that had happened. Sadly with soma it was dead because of the exploiters and the lack of effort put in by the admins, and they lost their developers quite early on.
I can remember the days when game network had their tv show and had people talking about the games. Ah those really were the days
I left warcraft because of several reasons. In the last few months I was only really there because of the friends I'd made. I'd find myself dreading raid times, then clockwatching the entire time while hitting random buttons and waiting for it to be over. It became so stale. Even leveling alts was getting old, and I had about 7 characters above level 70 >< -
Re: The Consolidated Freeware, Shareware & Independent Games ThreadI know what you mean! It was never really a fun game playing wow, I kinow that games like mir and soma are a lot more competitive, but wow has this breed of people which I just don't like.(no lifers, but they give no time to others). Whereas on soma at least everyone spoke and the pking aspect is the best concept!(Original post by AsystoleUK)

If I found a game with a pking aspect where people lost items/skills, I'd be signed up. On wow you can't lose anything and anything is achievable if you put the time in.
The randomness of the 2d games made my experience!
One of my friends has been playing the same character well with quite a few alts but one main. He has been hardcore and must have over 100+ hours game time. I just could never get involved in the game as much.
Sorry for all my digression, from the main topic. -

Specifically, Dungeon Crawl fun and oh look 0.5 Stone Soup is out, yay. -
Re: The Consolidated Freeware, Shareware & Independent Games Thread
Ah well, I may as well add in a few more...
And its sequel. The first level reminds me a lot of the scene in Starship Troopers where the bugs raid the outpost on Planet P...except that you're alone.Phobia II is a simple but fun top-down shooter by the Finnish Wah-Software. You are a space marine with a simple goal: survive as long as you can, and kill anything that moves. There is an neverending swarm of aliens coming towards you with bad intentions, and they will get you sooner or later. There is no real goal in the game, just killing as many aliens as possible before dying yourself. The game is rather nice looking. Altough there is only two kinds of moving characters (your marine and the aliens), the graphics are more than adequate. Epecially the light effects from explosions and the flashlight connected to your troopers gun and the little body parts and gore from the killed aliens are neat details. The game is quite challenging, but as you learn how to use the different extra weapons (exploding bullets, flamethrower and grenade launcer) to the maximal effect, you will find your score rise from measly couple of hundred kills to thousands. And the simultaneous two-player mode adds to the fun considerably, if you can get a friend to play with you. Good production values and playability make Phobia a nice game if your time for playing is limited, or if you just want to quickly ...(more) kick some alien butt.

Phobia III is ****ing hard, by the way. Oh, and both games are totally freePhobia III
The long awaited sequel to Phobia II where your sole purpose was to slaughter as many aliens as possible. Now with loads of new aliens, levels, animations, weapons and graphics overall. The new Phobia III also contains a "career mode" where you try to get as many "honor points" as you can to get higher ranks and access to other levels.

Let's play minecraft! [Free game!]
Minecraft is a sandbox game, you have a character and you're tasked with building. You build whatever you like, you can play in single player or multiplayer.
http://minecraft.net
http://minecraftforum.net
http://minecraftwiki.net
The developer is currently working on more game modes, there is currently only creative whilst the game is in alpha, the game will be moving in to beta when survival is released (the next game mode).
You can pre-order the full game now for $15, this will give you the full game when it's finally released for $15, if you wait it'll cost $30 at final release.
People have built some immense stuff:

I setup a server just for us TSRians, you can play here but you need to register first

Re: Let's play minecraft! [Free game!]I didn't play it no. I realise I'm judging it on looks alone, but seriously, it looks like it was made in the 1980s. A sandbox game where I'm tasked with building? I may as well play The Sims, Sim City or Second Life.(Original post by gafaw)
...wat, explain how? Did you play it?Last edited by james99; 02-07-2009 at 21:51. -

Just depends on if you are in a zombie or alien killing mood, you decide

Re: Let's play minecraft! [Free game!]I have played this, can get pretty addictive. One bad point is that anyone can remove the blocks that you put down, so unless you are on a constantly moderated server, there's no point building anything. There's some people with too much time on their hands who have built some amazing things though.(Original post by gafaw)

Re: The Consolidated Freeware, Shareware & Independent Games Thread
D2D and Steam both had awesome discount indie packs. Anyone else get them? I got the Steam 10 one. No Zeno Clash but it had Braid, Everyday Shooter, World of Goo, Blueberry Garden (computer couldn't handle it ;_
, The Path, Gish, Mr Robot, Darwinia, Crayon Physics Deluxe and Audiosurf. All for £23.39 or something! My debit card then locked. Oh well.

Nice piece of nostalgic abandonware for you

This takes me back soooo much!

Re: Nice piece of nostalgic abandonware for you
Jesus, kexy, you were making me worried I was going to have to warn you (abandonware's not legal so we don't allow it, and you strike me as the sort who'd have a bit more sense
)
But before anyone bothers reporting it, it's a fan-made remake of the game and thus is fine by us

Re: Nice piece of nostalgic abandonware for youAha, I should have been more clear in my title!(Original post by Dalimyr)

I simply used abandonware as it fits into that area now, where the copyright it unclear and unenforced so someone making a javascript remake is okay!
Which is awesome for me because it takes me right back to when I got my first gaming console - the Sega Master System II. Now that was a proper games console. [/nostalgia]
