Re: The Consolidated Freeware, Shareware & Independent Games Thread
Anyone tried Netsoccer 2?
http://www.netsoccer2.com/
It's a great game but the community's dwindling a bit, and it's mostly dominated by the Polish contingent, so it would be great to have a few more fellow Brits playing. Would anyone fancy forming a TSR team? I've played for a few years so I could teach the basics. I'm 'AfterDeath' in game if you're interested.

Re: The Consolidated Freeware, Shareware & Independent Games Thread
Under license from InstantAction (R.I.P.) a few of the devs and dedicated community have got the game Legions back up and running as a small free downloadable game. It comes from the Tribes background and this lastest work goes on by the name of Legions: Overdrive.
It is based on the freedom of movement, your character gets a few guns and jet pack, allowing you to skii across the surface over some excellent maps. Its an online multiplayer usually with up to 16 in a game. Game modes include Capture The Flag, Team Death Match and Rabbit, with more to come in the future.
The devs are doing fantastic work on it considering they are working for free in their spare time, bringing new maps, weapons and fun for everyone. I recommend checking it out! And say hello if you do, username: smile_wars

Re: The Consolidated Freeware, Shareware & Independent Games Thread
The mod San Andreas: Multiplayer is free to those who already own the game for PC.
Still played by loads of people, great community on the right servers.
Dear Esther is a unique free source mod (free for those who own half life 2)
Not much in terms of gameplay, but the narrative is second to no other game I can recall.
Would recommend both. -
Re: The Consolidated Freeware, Shareware & Independent Games Thread
I highly, highly recommend The Stanley Parable for anyone who hasn't played it. It's a free Source mod (not requring HL2, only Source SDK). There's practically no gameplay, but the story, and the way the story works, is phenomenal and revolutionary.

Re: The Consolidated Freeware, Shareware & Independent Games Thread
For those who like RPGs, I suggest Avernum series.
Download it here.Avernum is a classic fantasy role-playing game, designed for anyone who longs for an epic quest, enjoys a fascinating tale, or misses the classic days of Ultima and Wizardry. It features beautiful 3-D, 16-bit graphics, 80 towns and dungeon levels, an enormous outdoors, and a fascinating storyline. Avernum is from Spiderweb Software, makers of Nethergate and the award-winning Exile series.
Also, I haven't played it myself, but have seen Geneforge, another game they made, praised a lot by fellow gamers. -
Re: The Consolidated Freeware, Shareware & Independent Games ThreadI definitely recommend the Avernum series and any thing by Spiderweb Software to any RPG fans, especially those who fondly remember old school RPG titles like Planescape Torment, Arcanum and Baldur's Gate.(Original post by AliensAndMonsters)

Re: The Consolidated Freeware, Shareware & Independent Games Thread
How come this thread has died? Here's a new independent game from Greenheart Games: http://www.greenheartgames.com/ It's called Game Dev Tycoon and is essentially an improved version of the app Game Dev Story. Challenging but very enjoyable. There is a strategy guide here and some screenshots below:
