Fasting Feasting Essay
In what ways do the two terms of the title – “fasting” and “feasting” – apply to family life and society in general in India and the United States? [Fasting, Feasting by Anita Desai]
This is the essay title I have been set by my A2 Eng Lit teacher. I have come to a dead end unfortuantly so any hints or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
So far I have:
- Uma's emotional 'fasting'
- Which I linked to Melanie's literal fasting because of emotional neglect and American feasting that she feels guilt for
- Feasting of American society - Arun in supermarket
- Link to Aruna's 'feasting' in her own married life
- 'Feasting' in Arun's life; how he is smothered as a child. Hence why as a student he chooses to 'fast' from contact with people
