Eye test results different at 3 opticians

My brother had an eye test a month ago and wasn't happy with the process as he felt rushed. Today he has gone to 2 more places and had to pay for one and all 3 places have given different readings. He has been to Costco, Boots and Tesco. We are at the end of our tether and don't want him to mess his sight up. Why are the readings different? Who is reputable?

I'd go with boots.
You get different results having the test again at the same place. To be honest, I don't think it's that much of a big deal. They will prescribe you lenses which make you see as best as they think they can make you see, but even if they're a bit off you can still see. They can only go by what you're telling them.
Readings do tend to differ slightly, well up to 0.5 of a reading sometimes but if they are hugely different then you should be a little worried.
Peoples sight does change, and optitians do have to go through a process of trail and error as to which lense would suit you best and this can come up with different results.
Have you considered going to an independant optitian that has more time to sit down, and have a thorough assessment?
How big are the differences?
Maybe he said different lenses were better for him at different places? Just go to specsavers, they don't rush you at all.

Boots
Left - 0.50 sphere, - 0.20 cylinder, 20 axis
Right -0.55 sphere, - 0.20 cylinder, 155 axis

Costco
Left - 0.75 sphere, - 0.50 cylinder, 5 axis
Right -0.75 sphere, - 0.50 cylinder, 165 axis

Tesco
Left - 0.25 sphere, - 0.50 cylinder, 10 axis
Right -? sphere, - 0.50 cylinder, 160 axis
Why did he get 3 different eye tests?
Seriously - go to Specsavers.

Specsavers are perfectly capable of messing up a prescription.

He probably wants a true reading so he doesn't mess his eyes up further.

I don't really see how going to 3 different places is going to help. His eyes aren't going to be 'messed up'. I suggest he picks 1 more place (Specsavers will do) gets his eyes tested again and sticks with it.

Those are close enough that it won't make a major difference.
Specsavers are good though - they spotted something wrong with my eyes that my normal optician hadn't spotted.
Specsavers :yep:

Go with Boots, it means the weakest prescription lol. I think, I don't wear glasses you see...

They're a specialist firm though; it would be far less likely.
I used to work for specsavers, and tbh 0.5 sphere won't make much difference to his perscription at those sort of powers.

And i'm pretty sure you can't get 0.20 cyl..so it must've been 0.25

But yeah go to specsavers, and just go with it. Aslong as he can see better, it really doesn't matter. Especially if his perscriptions below combined power of 1.5.

There isn't a huge difference (.50) between the spheres, so I doubt any of these will mess your brother's eyes up. Also, you cannot get .20 cyl, I think you mean .25? As someone has already mentioned, part of the eye test is purely subjective and will depend totally on the patients answers.
