Default the music industry will die because of technology

my reasons as to why the music industry will die because of technology:

1. the economy, people have less money now and will be more inclined to download songs for free than pay for them.

2. bluetooth on phones, people can just send songs to each other easily via phones and bluetooth.

3. radios: radio technology is advancing so much that soon people will have radios that can acess any station in the world and thus will be able to listen to anything for free.

4. programmes and torrents : people can easily download stuff for free there.

your thoughts? do you think the music industry is dieing?

If the music industry dies, wouldn't that mean new music wouldn't be made?

Some people will always like to have the "CD collection" aspect....

The industry is definitely making less money, but I think it will always be around.

I haven't seen many huge music companies go down recently..they could cut prices?..maybe update their way of transacting with customer? (e.g like itunes)

The music industry is fine, as long as it's exsisted people have been sharing its good, in my mind the crack down on illegal downloading is only punishing fans..but hey thats just my opinion.

Radiohead made more money on their 'pay what you want' idea for downloading In Rainbows than they did for their last album, so no. its up to the music industry to adapt to technology.

All of these things serve as publicity for music and help the music industry to thrive, moreso than it ever has done before.

Are points 1,2 and 4 just the same thing?

People will always buy music. Sure, some people download an awful lot but if it gets them into the band then they'll probably go and watch them live and the band gets some money that way.

What about live gigs? No amount of technology will stop people paying to see live music performed.

No, I'd advocate downloading, regardless of the legalities, and I'm not a huge fan of copyright; it allows people to listen to whatever they want easily, and discover new bands/etc. And yeah if people don't have the money to buy CDS (and the CD's that are on sale in the major stores now are mainstream **** anyway) then how they going to get to listen to said music? I know if I didn't have downloading or mix tapes etc then I probably wouldn't be listening or going to see many of the bands I'm into today.

Radio has been around for years. How do you think people found new music fifty years ago? There was no downloading then.

Your other points all the same just different ways of saying it. What you are saying is that people will start to download more, I think you don't realise that someone would have had to buy the music in the first place for others to get it.

I would rather see a band live then buy music, although it is still nice to buy a CD every now and again.

There will always be music. Full stop. The effect could be that big names get less money; and also brilliant penniless musicians who don't care for money will come to the fore.

i wouldnt say it will kill music but it does give talentless fools the belief that they can sing and gain loads 'fans' online
aka Myspace

plus the voice synthesizer t pain/kanye and lil wayne use enables those who cannot ******* sing for **** the ability to sound as if they are in tune thus giving talentless idiots recording contracts

hopefully the main scene will die because most artists are overpaid and make rubbish music.

Did home taping kill music?

The record companies will just need to get their acts together, or yes, they may go under, but people will still make music and find their own ways of making a living from it.

Nowadays bands themselves tend to make more money from live gigs and merchandise sold there than they do from records, I don't think it'd be that big a loss if record labels went under. A lot are ripping off bands as it is...

Now that's just not sensible, it's true that the majority of artists make rubbish music, but that's only true if you include a lot of the unsigned stuff that's unsigned for a reason.

There's always going to be the mainstream music which the majority of people listen to, and then the 'proper' music, that people who have more than a discerning interest in music tend to listen to.

There will always be good and bad stuff in everything (see Sturgeon's second adage, Sturgeon's Revelation... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgeon%27s_law)
